I have followed the instructions as provided by BMD for Resolve 17.2.2 and for me Speed Editor is working without any issues

Before you perform the below steps make sure to back up your Database

1. First Uninstall the Resolve 17.2.1 and the keyboard panel as well

2. Download the latest version of Resolve 17.2.2

3. Make sure Speed Editor is connected through USB

4.Install the latest version of Resolve 17.2.2

5. After DaVinci Resolve 17.2.2 and Keyboard Panel is installed

6. Launch the Resolve application you should get a prompt stating there is an update for Speed Editor

7. Make sure Speed Editor is connected through USB until the update completes do not disconnect. Please be patient

8. Speed Editor should turn on the lights

9. Disconnect the USB cable from the Speed Editor and now if your Speed Editor is still connected through Bluetooth kindly disconnect and connect back again

10. You should get a prompt whether you want to pair the Speed Editor "Click on Allow" after which you should be able to use the Speed Editor on Resolve

I have attached the details screenshots for reference

Hope this will help everyone

I didn't see those instructions. I didn't uninstall anything, just did the usual update overwrite with database & projects all backed up. Opened the software, got the prompt and updated the speed editor. However on the Fairlight page, I now seem to have lost jog on the mix panel and the rough but functional jog with Speed Editor. There wasn't a prompt to update the mixer panel so I presume there was only the Speed Editor update. So is this a bug?

I'm having continued Bluetooth connection problems since 17.1. Have done all the updates as recommended and installed 17.2.2 (always clean installs, not upgrades). Disconnected keyboard from Bluetooth and reinstalled several times, with 99% battery. Still no joy. As soon as USB connected each time, no problem and connection pops up in DR control panels window. I love the speed editor, but this ongoing Bluetooth problem is getting tiresome. Anything I haven't thought of?

That is how I do it for every update Leo. The BT link is not established after the PC is shut down for a while just like before. However the difference now is just touching keys after Resolve is launched will light up the LED's and Speed Editor will now work. Before I had to make sure I touched keys " before " launching Resolve. So I am happy as it now works.

I updated to 17.2.2 by updating.
I get the prompt for the speed editor. The SE is connected via USB. When I click on "continue" in the promt, nothing happens. The update window does not show.

Any suggeestions?

Got it figured out. I didn`t install the Control Panels. After instlling them the Update worked.

I also was having the same problems that you describe after updating to 17.1
I finally solved the problem by looking at my bluetooth usb adaptor. I was using a V5 adaptor. I changed it for the older V4 adaptor. Since then, I have not had one connection problem with the Speed Editor.

This update has fixed my Speed Editor issues. I did not need to uninstall first, I just updated, updated the SE firmware and it works fine now. I do need to do the SE reset first to change the windows status from "Paired" to "Connected" before starting DVR but I'm fine with that. Thanks Black Magic Developer Team, great work.

Bluetooth connection seems better (Windows 10). When Resolve is not running, the Speed Editor remains recognised as Bluetooth device (no more fluctuating between paired and connected state).

However, in a Resolve session yesterday, the wheel did not work at all via Bluetooth. Everything else worked. I had to connect the USB cable to have full functionality.

That doesn't looked fixed to me. You should not have to do anything for it to work. For me, at first I thought it had been fixed with touching keys before or after starting Resolve. But it is back to needing touching keys before Resolve again now !! So for me no fix. It's just like before.

Agree its not fixed its as before I have also reverted to BT4.00 and it made no difference if its BT5.00 or 4.00
I keep experimenting, if I press the Timeline key once and wait for app 25 seconds it lights up. I wonder sometimes if the timeline has lost focus. If I stop using Resolve after one time it will hibernate I guess to save battery

This hasn’t work for me. Nothing has worked for me. I can hear the Speed Editor being added and removed when I plug it in and unplug it. I can even connect to something (via bluetooth) but Resolve doesn’t respond to it. There’s no prompt to update.

I’ve tried uninstalling 17.2 and Davinci panels and installing 17.0 and 16.8 and I’ve tried it all again in Max OS.

Nothing I do will get Resolve to recognise the speed editor. I’ve emailed Blackmagic support, twice, and not received a response.

Does anyone have any other suggestions?

Thanks, Colin.

Running Resolve Studio 17.2.2 on Win 10. No initial problems with the Speed Editor. If your computer or Resolve has been off for some time just tap the Stop/Play button a couple of times to wake up the Speed Editor before launching Resolve and it should connect with no problems.

I've started having the wheel not working on occasion which is cured with a computer restart, not closing and reopening Resolve. As this has only recently started happening I suspect a Windows update is the cause not Resolve or the Speed Editor, especially as the restart cures it.

Multiple connected BT devices may conflict with each other if they have the same profile or functionality.

Posting here, but pls. let me know if it's in the wrong place.

I just got my Speed Editor (I wanted the Studio license since I've been using it for free for a few years, and it seemed like a good bundle - I'm just a home movie/odd youtube person). I was already on 17.2.2 so didn't want to post in that specific problem thread...yet.

The SE works fine within my knowledge when connected via USB, it shows 99% battery, and seems to have all the latest software. It's a desktop PC, so I have a USB Bluetooth 5 dongle there, which I was planning to use with the SE. Perhaps I'm missing something, but I don't know how to pair the PC's BT and the SE.

I saw some comments saying to plug it in, press cut/smth cut / source/ timeline and it would automatically connect, and I can hear Windows restarting and redetecting the SE, but upon disconnecting the SE it disappears (since not paired I suspect).

This is my first BMD piece of hardware, so perhaps things are different, but isn't there a pairing sequence? I looked at the section in the DVR manual on the SE but nothing there about pairing. The BT dongle is working fine for a few other BT devices, so that side seems OK.

Am I missing something obvious?

I had this problem on my system - it was for me actually a pair of problems. The USB C cable was the issue - once I changed it to another cable then I was able to physically connect the SE to DaVinci.
The second issue was related, DaVinci wouldn't let me connect via Bluetooth until I first had a physical connection, which of course I couldn't do until I replaced the USB C cable.

I have no idea if you've already tried replacing the cable - but that solved it for me.

I installed 17.2.2 and my speed editor is not working. check connection and the speed editor is connected. Windows 10 operating system. Looking into this problem, I went to the devices control panel in Windows. It shows device connect, needs attention. The driver for the control panel is 1.4.1. I cannot get windows to install the new driver 1.6.1 from the Resolve folder, it keeps telling me that Microsoft Windows 10 has selected 1.4.1 as the best driver for the speed editor and I am stuck. Is there any other way to get the driver? Gotta love Microsoft and their wisdom.

Thanks in advance for any help.

I can use the speed editor most of the time after starting my computer. LEDs turn on when I start resolve, everything works smooth and fine.
At other times, the device will switch from paired/connected/paired/connected.. all the time in Windows 10 Bluetooth panel and resolve hangs synchronously, is very slow and wouldn't display the video smoothly but with stutter when played.
Restarting the pc works most of the times, but not every time, sometimes I just have to wait for some time and do nothing until these connection issues have gone away and it just shows connected in the Bluetooth panel, i can then start resolve without problems.
It's annoying...at the same time other Bluetooth devices like my headphones work flawlessly and just show connected, so it has to do with the SE ..

in addition to that, i just restarted my computer and resolve, the red LED of the Speed Editor lights up, and i can play the timeline with the STOP/PLAY Button, but the wheel doesnt have any effect. that also happened before. i can remove the device from windows bluetooth devices and add it again, that takes around 2 minutes, and it works while still staying in Resolve, after that, the wheel worked again.

it's almost impossible to use this device when working, it either doesnt connect, or loses connection every second and messes up the resolve performance a lot because of that, or the wheel is not working at all..

Anyone having the same problems?

Resolve is at 17.2.2 Build 4 and
Speed Editor shows as 1.4 build d0821c87

just as i removed the usb cable after checking the hardware panel window, it started to do that again with connected/paired/connected/.. endlessly..

it worked before connecting the usb cable and checking the panel window, now it doesn't anymore..

removing and adding it again in windows bluetooth panel fixed it for now.

i just bought the studio and SE a week ago, i never had 7.2.1 or earlier version on my computer.
i did exactly as the instructions said in the first post, connected it with usb and then installed and started Resolve 7.2.2, it also asked in the panel editor to update the SE, which finished without problems.

it seems it's not related to an old firmware or software version.

it stayed connected for about 2 hours now while i was reading (pc didnt sleep or turn off screen), and suddenly disconnected and didthe paired/connected/... situation again out of nowhere.
pressing they Stop/Play Button several times didn't do anything, it didnt connect properly again.
so i went and removed and added the bluetooth device again in win 10 and it works again.

it seems that the SE loses the bluetooth connection and only removing and adding it again in windows makes a dialogue come up saying that the device wants to connect to the pc and then its connected again.

so it looks like the device loses the connection and tries to find it again, but can't find or connect by itself, for whatever reason.
only adding a new bluetooth device aka turning pairing mode on in windows makes the device able to find the computer again and asking to connect.

the question is, why does it loose the connection, does the SE do that by itself after not being used for an hour or so?
if so, the problem would be that resolve wouldn't pick up the request and tell windows to stay connected after connecting properly again.

it's a bit of a mystery, but for sure, there's a bug here with the SE or Resolve.

today i started the computer, started Resolve, and the SE didn't light up and didn't work at all.
I looked at windows bluetooth settings and it just shows paired, but not connected, so it didn't connect automatically when resolve started.

so i pressed the STOP/PLAY Key on the SE to maybe wake it up.

Result: i just get the connected/paring/connected/... bug again in windows bluetooth settings and can not use it in resolve.

removing it in windows bluetooth settings and adding it again works, i can use it and it stays connected for now.

closing resolve keeps the SE connected in bluetooth settings and red LEDs turn off.

If your computer has been off for some time the Speed Editor will go to sleep. I would recommend tapping the Stop/Play key, before starting Resolve, to wake it up. I've not had any problems doing it this way.
Do not discount problems caused by Windows updates. Just last week an update changed all my wireless printer settings to the extent of no longer knowing what model of printer was connected. ;)

Hi Charles,.

I just tried that and it doesn't work..
After it went to "sleep" mode or a low energy mode and just displayed paired, I tapped the stop play and that only sent it back to the connected/paired loop.
Even when starting resolve after waking it up nothing changed.
Just removing and adding it again in win bt settings made it work.

On Mac Pro

I had issues updating as well and had to fiddle with restarting DV and removing/turning BT on/off in System Preferences.

Finally BM Controls Panels Setup saw the Speed Editor - but ONLY AFTER I TURNED MY USB-C connection around on the panel. Every single time I tried to connect with the cable facing one way it would not connect and every time I connected the cable with the opposite side up it would connect?!? That can't be how USB-C cable connections should work.

Then after having successfully updated, the Speed Editor won't connect via BT at all - only with the USB-C cable and only with the cable being connected with the "correct" side up.

So much hassle lately with BM updates - especially with the Speed Editor.

One sided usb-c cables are obviously normal, that's why double sided ones have extra chips inside the plugs.

Back to the problem of the pairing / connecting /pairing / ... Issue

I tried a factory reset on the speed editor with the resolve panel app, it didn't change anything.

I tried the 4 finger command on the SE, which simply disconnected and connected it again while wired on usb. But that also didn't have any effect on the Bluetooth issue.

I also reset the SE and deleted it's Bluetooth pairing information, so the win 10 Bluetooth options said that I need to connect it again with a cable when trying to connect with Bluetooth.

I did that and it connected with Bluetooth again after that but had the connection issue again after disconnecting / going into SE sleep state from Bluetooth and hitting a key on it to wake it up again.

The issue is very clear to me now.

After the SE goes into power safe mode and you wake it up again through pressing a key, it tries to connect to windows every second, but fails (drops the connection immediately) and goes to paired but disconnected and tries again endlessly.

Just removing and adding it again in win 10 Bluetooth options manually makes it connect and stay connected again.

So it seems that it can't connect by itself again to windows over Bluetooth because windows doesn't accept it automatically or there's some other timing or handshake issue.

For whatever reasons, that's what the Devs have to look for.

We have checked a number of different manufacturers but of course its impossible to check 1000s so your detail might help.

Hi, that's a Realtek RTL8723AE.

I tried any drivers I could possibly get.
The latest from Realtek, the one from Microsoft, an older one from Realtek and from azurewave.

I'm using the latest Realtek Driver from 2018 now.

Driver Date 30/01/2018
Driver Version 1.5.1009.3

The other drivers are Realtek from 2013 and Microsoft from 2014.

This chip is found in a lot of MSI notebooks from some years ago. They still work very well with up to 16gb DDR3, i7 CPUs and GeForce GTX cards inside. I can work fluidly throughout resolve with that notebook.

I second Charles comment about Windows Update. It may take two or three updates to complete with full shut downs. I now make sure I force updates about three times with full shutdowns before I am happy its completed.

Initially with my system the onboard Bluetooth did not work. I then realized it needed a stronger signal and bought a USB dongle that worked OK. Then I found the antenna extension for my motherboard and it has worked fine since. It goes to sleep and needs to be woken up to work. With the present version of 17 it will also work if keys are touched after loading Resolve where before that had to be done before loading Resolve. Takes a few seconds but does then work. I made sure that there was only one Bluetooth system operating. When I first tried the USB plugin I got conflicts with the on board Intel chip.

To follow-up on my own reply, it works fine now. For some reason I'll likely never know, in Windows 10, it wouldn't show up in the 'Bluetooth and Other control panels' when I selected 'Add Bluetooth or other device'. The next day (*following a reboot*) it did show up and synced fine. Since then, when I fire up DVR and press a few buttons on it, it all enables again. I used it for a recent family video to go through the footage as a roll and it was much faster than my old mouse n keys method.

My suspicion is with the dongle even though some headphones tested OK, so my 'YMMV' tip is to install the dongle manufacturer's driver (not rely on the Windows one) and reboot a couple of times, if you're using one.

Sry - usually I'm more rigorous in my troubleshooting, but this is a hobby thing and I had other things I had to get done at the time.

The only way I have been able to get my speed editor to work reliably via bluetooth was to roll back to 17.1, and "update" the firmware back down to 1.1

Anything after that breaks bluetooth functionality regardless of factory resetting the speed editor, disconnecting bluetooth, uninstalling/reinstalling resolve and all the associated panel apps, rebooting the pc, it doesn't seem to matter, it refuses to work properly with anything past firmware 1.1 on bluetooth.

The latest firmware that came with 17.2.2 made USB really quirky too, it would not jog smoothly, as if my pc was overloaded, however downgrading to 17.1 of studio and 1.1 SE firmware, the jog wheel is smooth as butter via bluetooth or USB, and wakes itself up when I open resolve, no fuss trying to get it connected.

I'm sure whatever improvements in 17.2 and 17.2.2 are great and all, but I'll hang back with the release that doesn't leave me editing with my keyboard and mouse with this beautiful paperweight sitting directly next to it.

I just installed 17.3 incl. Panels Software, hooked the SE up with USB, ran the panels app and resolve, there was no update for the SE Panel though.

When the SE was fully charged, i removed the USB Cable while in Da Vinci, the Panels App switched and didn't show it anymore as connected (which is probably fine and only shows when connected with USB), but Resolve started to freeze and hang, the Win10 Bluetooth Options showed the Paired/Connected/.. Loop again, so i had to remove the SE from the Bluetooth Devices and Shut Down Resolve, to be able to work again by restarting Resolve.

What's new now in 17.3: When i remove the device in Win10 Bluetooth and Add it again, it would usually stay connected and i can work with it in Resolve, now with 17.3 after adding it, the connected/paired loop starts even then after a fresh remove and add. i can't use it at all anymore in resolve with bluetooth, it doesn't stay connected. i pressed several keys before adding it, so it's woken up, but it didn't help.

So that bug is still there in 17.3 and even worse than before.

Interesting. My experience is totally the opposite. I've never had the Paired/Connected loop problem and the SE is working perfectly in 17.3 on my system via Bluetooth.

Just to add to this. Before 17.3 I would have to click one of the buttons to wake up the SE before opening Resolve for it to function properly. Now I can wake it up with Resolve open and it is fully functional almost immediately.

Digitlray78 describes my problem exactly except that I'm on a Mac. I did a clean install of both Resolve 17.3 and the Speed Edit controller after extreme behavior after the clean install of 17.3. And everything, including the Blutooth connection worked perfectly for about 3 days, then half way through yesterday the Bluetooth simply stopped responding. While Bluetooth indicates that the Speed Editor is connected, Resolve says no such thing and does not work until plugged. Did another reboot attempt to "factory reset." No change. Have not gone back to 17.2.2 to see if Bluetooth would return. For now hoping someone has a fix in mind.

So I'm testing Win11 on an Intel BT Chipset (which just released Win 11 BT drivers) and not only can I see the issue of issue of it working --> no working --> working but it is causing the whole BT stack to go through this cycle so I also now have connection issues with my BT Keyboard and Mouse. Removing the pairing to the SE fixs the issues with the Keyboard and Mouse.

Edit: Looking at Windows Event Veiwer, is see:

The Bluetooth Support Service service terminated unexpectedly. It has done this 2177 time(s).

Unpairing SE as a Bluetooth Device stopped these msgs.

I got the same problem on Windows 11 with those Intel BT Chipset Driver. Lots of errors and sometimes it connects for a second and then disconnects forever. Only the USB cable does work.

Windows 11 Build 22000.176 (KB5006050) is out with Bluetooth fixes but.... no change for the Speed Editor. Still makes the Windows / Intel BT Driver crash over and over

Trythistv wrote:The only way I have been able to get my speed editor to work reliably via bluetooth was to roll back to 17.1, and "update" the firmware back down to 1.1

I think you may be on to something here. I am worn silly trying to get it working like it did before the last update. I have everything in Resolve Cut I did before EXCEPT for JOG,SCRL,SHTL. The wheel is like a dead limb now. Everything else works though. But I really enjoy the wheel. :/

I have tried restarting several times, my Davinci Control Panel is the latest, the speed editor has the latest firmware, I deleted it from Bluetooth devices several times I reconnected...

OMFG. I just went in to look for my Resolve Studio Version(17.3) and my Jog Wheel is working just fine now. LIKE BUTTER AGAIN.

I would say sorry for the long rant but I am not because I spent hours trying to get this work and I am an IT guy, my PC has the latest BIOS, it is new enough to be Windows 11 compatible, all updates are installed, I am running Windows 10 Pro, and have literally tried everything in my power to assure there are no other conflicts from removing all other Bluetooth devices, disabling EVERY Windows startup program, uninstalling every USB device besides a regular USB keyboard and mouse as well as removing most all of my PCIE cards besides the RTX. Ok, I will go back in my hole now.
