Playback Halted when reference present

I have just started my first show on DR Studio 17. So far so good with the exception of one thing I can't figure out. In version 16 on the edit tab I could have my offline reference playing in the left source monitor while playing the timeline in the right record monitor.
This is no longer working and won't play in this configuration. It just holds when I hit play.
Is this a new setting perhaps?
