After updating to 17.2.2 Apple M1 only using low power cores

PostMon Jul 19, 2021 8:33 pm

Quite frustrating. Wondering if anyone else noticed this. After I updated to 17.2.2 Build 4, my Macbook M1 is only using the 4 low power cores for playback. Previously it would use the high power cores and would play back smoothly. Now it plays for a few seconds and then the 4 low power cores max out and then it just plays back at about 1 fps. The high performance cores do nothing.

Do I need to revert back a version or am I the only one experiencing this. It doesn’t seem to matter if I choose full res, half or quarter. It doesn’t matter if I use proxies either. Previously, last week, I could play back full res 4K on a 1080 timeline with no performance hit.

Playing Sony 4K XAVCi 10 bit 4:2:2 clips. I have played these with zero issues up until this point and now it is almost unusable.

Ok, so now I’m finally exporting 4K h.265. What used to export in absolute record time is now taking 40 minutes to export. Previously, the exact same footage exported in like 7 minutes. And again, only the 4 low performance cores are being used.

I feel like there is a memory leak in Resolve.

What effects do you have on the timeline?

I had 1 text overlay for 20 frames, 1 keyframed zoom over about 3 seconds. An audio compressor and eq and color correction. That’s it.

It was rendering between 7-12fps. Playback would play for a couple seconds at 24fps and then it would get exceptionally choppy while still showing 24fps.
