Masking Track (mask clip below)

PostSun Jul 25, 2021 12:21 pm

Hi,

I am not sure, but has been a "mask below" effect introduced in Resolve 17? I.e. no use of the color tab.
I have a bunch of animated clips (black/white) and I want to use them to mask out the clips below in the timeline.

Found the the solution:
you need to work with 3 video tracks and the composite modes "Foreground" and "Alpha".

Track 3: The video clip on top (composite mode: foreground)
Track 2: The video clip with masking elemenets (black/white) (composite mode: alpha)
Track 1: The video clip underneath (composite mode: normal)

If anyone comes up with a solution that uses two layers or less... they will be a rockstar in my book.

If you have 3 items, the video, the mask and the other video, how would you use less than three layers?
What would your ideal workflow be in this context?

2 layers?

Open the foreground clip in Fusion or Color and add the alpha clip to it. Done.
