Serious Bug with 17.2.2- "Timeline view options" not working

PostMon Jul 26, 2021 5:00 pm

I am not sure as the best way to post this to support. I read the locked posts on support, and still need to report this issue.

With 17.2.2, in the Edit and Fairlight pages, the "Timeline View Options" dialog box does not work. It keeps disappearing and not allowing many of the options to be selected.

Best that I show you a video of what happens... see attached file.

Note that I am on Windows 10 and Davinvi Resolve 17 was working well. I don't use it often as I am a new customer of BlackMagic Design, so I am not sure when this dialog box stopped working, ie if it was 17.2.2, or the update before it. But I know that it was working properly for me previously.

I have tried rebooting my computer, restarting Davinci Resolve, resizing the Davinci Resolve window, creating new projects, etc. But this dialog box still does not work for me.

How can I report this to Black Magic Support?

If you are using the free version of Resolve you get support from the forum. If you have the Studio version you can contact Blackmagic directly. Look at the bottom of the Support page.

I have not seen this problem at all. Have you tried a UI reset? You will find that in the Workspace drop down menu.

Make sure Display Scaling is set to 100%.

I've also not experienced that behaviour.

In my experience, those sorts of problems are often caused by video drivers.

What are your computer specs, particularly the GPU?
Resolve Studio 17.4.6 - Fusion Studio 17.2.2 - Windows 10
Gigabyte GTX1080ti 11GB - AMD 1950X - 64GB 2400
Gigabyte X399 AORUS Gaming 7
Intensity Pro 4k
Presonus 192 Audio Interface
Separate M.2 SSDs for OS and Resolve Cache

A big THANKS to EVERYONE.

Jim Simon was right. I had changed the Windows "Scale and layout" - size of text, apps, etc to 125% on advice from Black Magic forums so that I could see the Davinci Resolve buttons and icons on my 40" computer display. I assume that I never tested the "Timeline view options" button since then.

As Jim suggested, once I turned the Windows 10 option from 125% down to 100%, the "Timeline view Options" dialog box works! This is great. Thanks Jim!

The only problem is that now all the buttons and icons in Davinci Resolve are way too small for me to see on my 40" monitor. I originally changed the setting to 125% on the advice from the blackMagic forums to increase the button and icon sizes. It seems that everything works except the "Timeline view options".

Hopefully BlackMagic support has a solution to address this bug, or will address it in their next release. As Charles Bennett suggested, I have written to support as I own the Studio version. I will let you know what I hear back.

Best regards.

I use only a 32" monitor myself. You may have to sit closer to the monitor, or get one even larger.

OR Blackmagic could fix this bug, OR they could add an option to increase buttons and icon sizes from within the application. :-)

Well, no I don't think that should be considered.

100% is the only correct option to choose. Ever.

The only valid purpose of higher resolutions is more screen real estate. You lose that when you change from 100%.

This is so thoroughly true that Microsoft should actually remove the option to change it in the OS.

We'll have to agree to disagree.

It IS a bug, and should be fixed by BlackMagic. And it's probably not a major effort either as everything else works.

Secondly the Davinci Resolve buttons and icons are far too small on larger monitors in Windows at 100% scaling, which you say should be the only option, however there needs to be an option to increase their size, either within the application or via the Operating system.

It is unworkable otherwise at the moment. One can scale and resize almost all elements within Davinci Resolve (timelines, clips, thumbnails, etc), but not the buttons and icons.

For everyone's information, I just found out that BlackMagic Design engineers are working on a fix for this bug. No indication of when it will be released.
