why such a large file?

PostWed Jul 28, 2021 2:29 pm

Hi, so I have rendered 2 versions of the same film, one has simple titles and credits and weighs in at 15GB, the version without and titles or credits weighs in at only 5GB, why such a large increase just for 2 minutes of titles?

Text has sharp edges which dont compress as easily to keep the sam equality, and from your description im guessing you are rendering to 264/264.

Thanks Peter, what settings could I use to end up with a smaller file but the same quality?

Most likely you changed the export settings.

File size = Bitrate x Duration.
My Biases:

You NEED training.
You NEED a desktop.
You NEED a calibrated (non-computer) display.

Well, something changed. It's unlikely adding titles will make any noticeable change to the bitrate. So let's look at the only other relevant factor.

Is the non-title version shorter?

I've just done a test rendering the same clip with and without three consecutive standard titles to h264. Both files are exactly the same size. So it would seem that another setting may have changed to give you the larger file size.
