Open Project - Blank Screen but right click & dropdown shows

PostThu Jul 29, 2021 12:25 am

I can get Resolve 17 to start by disabling the Intel driver.
The program starts and I can see my projects and make a new project however when I open the project - all I get is a black screen.
If I right click on the screen I get a drop down box with:
Create New Timeline
Create New Timeline Using Selected Bin.....
New Bin
Import Media
Remove all clips in bin.....
Relink all clips for bin.....
Any ideas as to what is wrong would be appreciated.
Thanks,
John

Post all your hardware info: Which hardware (CPU, GPU, RAM, disk I/O speed)? What specific version of Resolve? What OS? What source material? What timeline resolution? What framerate? How does your drive rate with Blackmagic Speed Test? Which GPU drivers are installed?

Thank you for your interest Marc although this dual graphics laptop used to work fine with DR until Windows updated and all the latest NVIDIA and Intel Graphic Drivers were installed.

The presence of the Intel Graphic won't allow Davinc 17 or 16 to start up - disabling the Intel driver (even though not being used for Davinci) enables it to start.

Using this method to start it worked until recently when this new problem developed - that of the program loading - select a project - it shows it load and then it stops with just a plain black screen but with the project name at the top. Right click and you get a dropdown box with various options.

This machine has run Resolve before without problems so it is capable of running the program.

If you look through this Forum you will see that there are lots of people with the not starting problem if the Intel drivers are enabled and a good number with this black screen problem ...... but nobody seems to be able to sort this out and have lost interest.

The basic details of my laptop are as follows.

John, the thing that stands out in your list is the amount of RAM. The recommended minimum is 16GB. Also the figures for Available Physical Memory and Virtual Memory are very low. If you use the Intel video it will be using the physical memory to run taking away resources need to run the program.
By way of comparison here is my desktop system.

Many thanks for the reply Charles.

I agree that only having 8mg of RAM could be the problem - but it has worked fine before.

The Intel driver was disabled to get the program running as you suggested and I could use Resolve without problems - then suddenly this new problem raises it's head.

The program starts, the project can be seen and selected, the program loads ......but then the screen just goes black with the project header at the top of the screen.

Right clicking and you get the drop down box as described - I think I am fated never to use Resolve on a dual purpose laptop with NVIDIA 1060 and a disabled intel driver...
