Wonky Media Offline Behavior

PostThu Jul 29, 2021 4:46 am

In several projects, I'm seeing the red "Media Offline" screen, even though the Media Pool shows the clip or image to be properly linked!
I tried relinking anyway, and the "Media Offline" still stays in the timeline.

This is only on a few isolated clips, but I've found it in several projects I've recently opened. They were fine, and rendered properly, last time I had them open.

It's happening with quite a few fusion clips, where in the fusion tab it plays correctly, but in the timeline it says "Media Offline."

Anyone have any idea what might be going on?

Edit: This is in Davinci Resolve 17.2.2 build 4, HP Omen (2018) Intel Core I7-8700, 16 GB, Windows Home, build 19043.1110.

Which GPU?

GPU is a GeForce GTX 1070 with 8 GB dedicated RAM.

After looking a little deeper, it appears all the Media Offline clips are Fusion clips with a static image (jpg or png). In the Fusion tab they all play fine (except for one; haven't figured that out, since it was copied from project to project exactly, and plays in the Fusion tab in all the rest, and in one project plays fine in the Edit tab as well), but in the Edit tab they show as "Media Offline."

Could this be a problem with the MediaIn1 node in Fusion? When viewing that node in the Fusion tab, it doesn't show an image (which it should) - just a transparent blank screen.

I deleted all the render caches some weeks ago, since they were eating up my entire drive. The render folders regenerated when I opened the projects, but maybe there's an issue there?

Try a Loader node.

Using a loader node doesn't explain what's happening. I'd like to understand if I unintentionally changed a setting that's causing this behavior, or if something is corrupting my data, or if 17.2.2 itself is somehow causing this.

And it gets a little weirder.

Just for laughs, I tried rendering one of the projects that has the "Media Offline" issue, and it came out just fine! No missing images or anything. So whatever this media offline issue is, it only affects my ability to edit those parts of the project (which can be bad enough, but if it crops up after I've finished editing, no big deal, I suppose).

Is there some setting I may have tripped in the Fusion page to cause this?

Here's a screenshot of the render page as it's rendering one of the "Media Offline" segments. Note the media offline image in the filmstrip (or whatever you call it), but the correctly displayed image in the viewer. I'm at a loss here...

And thanks everyone for the responses to this point, by the way.

I've seen others report issues when doing that.

I constantly have this problem with fusion clips and it is infuriating. Every time I think I have it fixed, it pops up again.

There are dozens of these posts on this forum. Can someone from Davinci please, please, please offer some info on this?
