Making a cut on linked clips keeps them all selected

PostThu Jul 29, 2021 8:51 am

If you have say an interview with a few different audio clips in them and you've linked everything together, when you go through to cut bits out, instead of the normal behaviour which makes the cut and selects the part that was cut (making a quick delete easy with keyboard shorcuts) this just keeps it all selected.

It's just a minor inconvenience but I'm guessing there's no reason for it to work like this even with linked clips.
Just an example below, you can see the cut has been made at the playhead but rather than deselecting everything after the playhead, it all remains selected.

That is normal and expected. Turn Linked Selection off to get the behavior you desire.
My Biases:

You NEED training.
You NEED a desktop.
You NEED a calibrated (non-computer) display.

But if I do that it only selects the video and not the audio, where as really making a cut should only select the cut area.

If I have a video with an audio clip built in, it works the way I explain, but when I add more audio it does it this way instead, which I don't think is normal? It should just work the same way as a normal video/audio clip does

OK.

How are you "adding" the audio?

The extra layer I just sync up and the link together, which is why I'd expect it to work the same when I make a cut and not keep everything selected, not sure I see a benefit in the way it acts right now

Got it.

How exactly are you making the cut? Is the clip selected when you do that?

Yeah it's selected :) but like I said, if I don't have any extra audio then it selects things fine, it also happens if I link two video clips together on the same tracks, but I'm sure it should act like it does the default way instead of this strange way? Since after making a cut it's pretty obvious you don't want everything selected at that point

OK, here's what I'm seeing.

With a clip selected, any time I make a cut, the portion to the left of the cut remains selected. Everything that's linked is included, as expected.

The only way I can get the portion to the right of the cut selected is to manually select it. But again, everything linked is selected, as I'd expect.

Studio 17.2.2 for Windows.
