Failed to install DaVinci Resolve panels

PostTue Aug 03, 2021 7:43 pm

Hi everyone.
I'm a new member here, so apologies if this is a daft query.
I have attempted to download resolve 17 and it has failed to install. So I have tried to install 16, and I get the same problem.
Now I have used resolve 16 before. But I've just upgraded my pc. So it's literally all a fresh install of Windows and nothing much else is on my pc yet.
The messages I get are:
"Failed to install DaVinci Resolve Panels. Continue with the other components?" (which incidentally fail also)

I am not sure what I'm doing wrong. PostgreSQL installed as did visual C++ 2013.

My new pc is:
AMD Ryzen 7 3700x 8core
32gb ram
64bit os (win10)
I'm using a m.2 ssd and sata ssd
NVIDIA GEFORCE GTX 770
(old card, but there's a shortage atm.. But the card should be good enough!)

Is there something I can do to fix this?
I'd be much appreciative, I'm trying to edit a video for my little boys birthday by the end of the month

Many thanks

Your GTX 770 is not suitable for Resolve after version 16.2.6. This is because of a change in Resolve to use CUDA11. CUDA11 requires an Nvidia GPU to have a minimum Compute Capability of 3.5. Your GTX 770 has a Compute Capability of 3.0.
Your choices are to use an older version of Resolve, or upgrade your GPU.
Resolve Studio 19.0b1 build 20
Dell XPS 8700 i7-4790, 24GB RAM, 2 x Evo 860 SSDs, GTX1060/6GB (551.86 Studio Driver), Win10 Home (22H2), Speed Editor, Faderport mk1, Eizo ColorEdge CS230 + BenQ GW2270 + Samsung SA200, Canon C100mk2, Zoom H2n.

Ohh.. I didn't think that would stop it installing though? I appreciate it might not work when I open. But it doesn't seem to even install?

If that's the case.. (so sorry) do you know where I can aquire an older version?

Many thanks in advance
*edit: I tried installing Resolve 16.1. And still got same fail issues.
Perhaps this problem isn't as global as I thought.. Since not many reports in this forum about it. But a quick Google shows there is ppl with this problem.. And literally no advice how to fix. :(

You're running Windows 10?

You're using an Admin account?

You don't have any third-party security installed? (Windows Security is sufficient.)

You allowed the various components Firewall access when they popped up to ask?
My Biases:

You NEED training.
You NEED a desktop.
You NEED a calibrated (non-computer) display.

For older versions go to this page and scroll down the left hand column.
https://www.blackmagicdesign.com/support/family/davinci-resolve-and-fusion

Resolve relies heavily on its hardware a key part of which is the GPU which does all the image processing. The more vram the GPU has the better. These are the recommended minimum requirements for 17.2.2.

The Blackmagic Desktop Video is only needed if you have any Blackmagic hardware such as a Decklink card installed.

I can only but thank you for attempting to steer me in the right direction.

I'm overly frustrated, because I just plugged my old ssd into my new pc build, and I was running resolve 16.2 I used it fine on my old system which was:
I7 4770k
16gb ram (ddr3)
And the same gpu. Gtx 770
How did it work on that.. 2013 pc build. But with my ryzen 7, 32gb ram build it fails to install?
My windows is all up to date. Drivers are up to date.

Has literally noone else come across this issue? :(

You need a current model GPU for v17
