Newbie question re clip speed

PostWed Aug 04, 2021 11:34 am

Hi guys

i have recently joined the resolve family and currently use the free version. I mostly use for light music video work and i will be multicam editing a new project. The only issue i have is the audio tempo will be increased which means the video needs to be sped up to match the increased tempo. Any tips are welcome!

You're intending to change the tempo in the final deliverable, or only when shooting so you can get a lip-synced slow motion?
My Biases:

You NEED training.
You NEED a desktop.
You NEED a calibrated (non-computer) display.

in the final deliverable. we had already recorded the drummers video in 125bpm, but the song will be sped up to 130bpm. the rest of the musicians will record to the increased tempo thankfully so just need to adjust the drummers footage.

Thank you

How will you speed up the video without changing the pitch of the drum? Is the drumvideo video only, or do you need the sound of it as well?

the audio is not the problem as that will be increased and processed outside of resolve at 130bpm. Just need to sync the video to the increased speed of the audio that is it. Thanks!

OK. You might run into a problem here. Video doesn't run at BPM, it runs in terms of FPS (frame per second). And you're restricted to those limitations.

You can change the Speed of a clip with a right-click, but...it may not be possible to get the video to exactly match the sped up audio.

Experiment. See how well you can match it.

Thank you! Ill try that. Is there anyway to decipher what the bpm will end up once the footage it spedd up?

130 / 125 = 1.04

So in theory, you must set the speed of the drum clips to 104% to match 130BPM

It's easy with another software but with davinci.. it's really hard and couldn't find a way...

here is an example, something similar to your question;

one remix and different live performances, official videos. All performances has different tempos, but I could match all of them;

Thriller Megamix

couldn't make with Davinci. I wish I can, I really want to jump to Davinci.
