Transferring Timeline from one project to another in R17

PostWed Aug 04, 2021 3:52 pm

On Resolve 17, when I transfer a specific timeline that is in proj-1 to another project called proj-2, I would export the timeline from proj-1 to disc. Then I go to proj-2 and import the proj-1 timeline from disc to the current project. The problem I am having is that some of the items on the exported timeline like transitions, timeline resolution, and others are not being exported or imported at all. What do I have to do to export everything that was in the timeline so that it is the exact timeline when I import it into the other project? What export settings do I have to have if I want to retain everything? This is just from a Resolve project to another Resolve project, both on the same version of Resolve too. Any assistance appreciated.

Just copy and paste the timeline from one project to another (make sure dynamic project switching is enabled in the project manager, right-click). Some elements, like timeline resolution, will be determined by the [empty] timeline in the target project, not the copied one.

I didn't know you can do that. Thanks John. I'll look for that dynamic project switching option.

Yes. But now I see that I can just copy and paste it using dynamic projects and that could work.

Apparently a lot of things are not exportable. :(
I have not done it yet as I am out of town but when I get back on Monday, I will attempt to do the Dynamic Project that John Paines suggested and just copy and paste the timeline. I hope that works.

I noticed that exporting and importing the entire bin where the timeline is gives better results than just exporting-importing single timelines.

This way you can also import clips (including source markers), other timelines etc. that aren't in the destination project in one go.

And it makes it easier to send your updates to collaborators over the internet, when you don't have easy access to the destination project.
