Merge multiple audio tracks

PostMon Aug 30, 2021 8:27 am

Hello I have DR 17.2.2.
My camera provides 5 audio tracks, this takes a lot of space on the monitor.
How can I push the 5 audio tracks together to one ?

Greetings Daniel

  1. On the timeline, change the audio track type to "Adaptive 5".
  2. In the Media Pool, right-click on the media clip(s) in question and choose Clip Attributes.
  3. To start with, it will look like this - but yours will have 5 mono channels:
    Image
  4. At the top, set Format: "Adaptive 5", Tracks: 1, then click Add.
  5. You'll get a new Adaptive 5 track, using Embedded Channels 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5.
  6. Now click the delete / bin icon against each of the three Mono tracks.
  7. At the end, it'll look like this (but with 5 tracks):
    Image
  8. Click OK, then drag this clip to your timeline.
  9. Now your 5 tracks will be represented by one, and all 5 of those audio signals will be merged into a single mono output:
    Image
  10. If desired, you can go back to Clip Attributes and mute individual tracks so that you only hear one rather than all 5 mixed together:
    Image
  11. If you later want to edit them individually:
    • Go to Fairlight
    • Select the Adaptive 5 track, right-click, Convert To Linked Group. It will break it out into 5 separate audio tracks again.
    • You can then unlink them and edit them individually, choose the best track and delete the rest, etc.

PS. There's a chapter in the Resolve 17 Fairlight training manual (PDF) that specifically deals with "Preparing Multichannel Clips for Dialogue Editing" - it's Lesson 4, starting page 141. Might be worth going through that.

There is a menu when you right click the audio track header. Check the user manual for details.
