Stuttery, jumpy export in Davinci Resolve 17.3

PostTue Aug 31, 2021 8:36 pm

Hi there,

since I updated to version 17.3 I got serious export problems.
Within davinci resolve the playback is smooth, but as soon as I export the timeline, i get a very stuttery and jumpy image (example
)

My timeline framerate is the same as my file framerate, i work with an imac 5k retina 2019, davinci resolve 17.3. The files I use are recorded on sony fx9, shot in 4k.

Please help, thanks.

Finally found someone else that this is happening to. Have you found a fix yet?

Do you have your timeline proxy mode enabled? I'm asking because I could swear that having it enabled screws up the delivery page.

Yeah there seems to be quite a few issues related to Timeline Proxy Mode at the moment. Probably a good idea to always turn it off prior to trying to deliver anything.

I recently tried to activate "render cache - user mode" and in export settings I set the option "use cached images". That works for me. I also realized, that when I played back my timeline after all files are cached, some parts of the clips have already shown some jumpy parts. In this case, select the clip and hit "delete render cache - selected files", then it restarts the caching process and should play back smooth then.

you can solve the problem by using "render cache - user mode", let the timeline cache all clips completely, and checking the option "render cached images" in export settings. At some points on my timeline I realized a jumpy playback, the you can just hit "delete render cache - selected clips", and when it's rendering again, it should play back smooth.

I've seen issues reported even while editing.

Might be a good idea to leave Timeline Proxy Mode set to Off all the time. (There are several other ways to improve performance.)

I have the same problem but only when I export h264. Unfortunately even when the files are rendered and running smoothly. I have this problem with several Sony cameras with the XAVC Intra 422 codec.

In my case, the render and export errors always refer to the stabilization. If I deactivate this or deactivate it again after use, resolve renders everything out without any problems. Unfortunately it is not possible to delete the render cache files and simply render again. The optimized media and proxy function is also not decisive for me.

Hi everyone,

Sorry to revive such an old thread but I'm faceing the same problem with 18.3, when exporting mov or mp4 h264 or h265, none of the tricks listed here helped me. Has anyone found another solution?

Cheers,

Xavier

Not exactly a solution but a workaround, i had exported in Prores 422 and the output is not choppy. None of the other steps worked. So i had exported in prores 422 and then converted to mp4 format using handbrake application in My mac.

I was having the same issue. I searched through this entire thread last night along with several others and eventually went to sleep. I left VLC media player open all night with the exported video loaded (choppy playback last night). I went to play it today and there were no issues. Clear, smooth play back. So I went on my phone and downloaded the same file that I sent via weTransfer before I went to bed. No issues. No choppy playback. This leads me to believe it was a playback issue upon first opening the file in VLC. I experienced the same issue in Quicktime so I thought for sure it was the video but it's now clear to me those programs just were not prepared to play the 4K video right away. I imagine this may not be the case for everyone who stumbles across this thread with an issue, but I'm certain it will be for some. Hope this was helpful!
