Internet speeds crash when Resolve is open

I'm facing a very odd issue : when Resolve is open, my PC's internet speed goes from 110mb/s down to 5mb/s. Upload speed goes from 25mb/s to basically 0mb/s.

I have tested multiple solutions and scenarios and I can safely assume this is caused by Resolve being open. My temperatures are all good (nothing is overheating). Also Resolve doesn't use any network bandwidth in the task manager.

What could explain this? Is anyone facing a similar issue? It makes it very difficult to work with Resolve and online material at the same time.

Here's a Speccy that I ran while the issue was happening : http://speccy.piriform.com/results/j8Po ... icY3U3PESC

Thanks

My first thought is coincidence. I don't think Resolve can affect bandwidth.

I assure you, there is a correlation, as odd as that sounds.

Never seen that.

When I am on the forum and trying to answer a post I always have Resolve running as well. Resolve has never had an impact on the internet side of things, both running very happily together.

Correlation isn't causation. You know that, right?

I would be looking at everything else that might be running concomitant with Resolve.

A very important issue in many areas of scientific research!

I'd also make sure that you have nothing else running, no virus scanners or anything. Then check only Resolve and one browser oder download.

The Wi-Fi is a Wi-Fi 6 device. Maybe there's some part of the PC that isn't shielded enough and it only shows with more load on the hardware. Does it help if you use ethernet instead of Wi-Fi?

Failing that I would disable/disconnect one thing at a time, like Bluetooth, extra monitors and other devices (all USB devices except mouse/keyboard).

Last resort would be to do a clean install from scratch of Windows, in case it's a software/driver issue. Don't install any extra drivers that you don't need for just testing Resolve. Ideally do this on a separate disk if you don't want the hassle of reinstalling/moving everything.

Resolve can generate TCP/IP traffic. No other users are seeing the same issue though, but in theory anything that runs traffic over IP could flood the network. If you really suspect Resolve look at your IP traffic using Wireshark.

I have identified that booting up some games causes the exact same issue. Sorry for pinning it down to Resolve. I think there might be something wrong with my motherboard.

I found the issue : there's an option on my pre-built Lenovo PC to turn off network for other apps to prioritize the games I'm playing. It comes as On by default, which is beyond stupid. I think it recognizes Resolve as a game since it mutilates my GPU. Problem solved I think!

Wow. That's good to know. Yes, I've seen Windows 10 think that Resolve is a game before.

Hey! I just wanted to thank warmly Vinisamples / Vincent Menard here because I had the same problem for ages with my Lenovo laptop and Resolve, and it was driving me crazy! I couldn't figure out where it came from! I had to close Resolve and reboot the internet connection all the time, it was such a pain.

So, if anyone runs into the same problem with internet bandwidth and Resolve on a Lenovo computer: go to Lenovo Vantage and uncheck Network Priority (amélioration réseau in french) and it's gone in a second.

Thanks again !

Thanks @ViniSamples and @alainastruc. Turning off the Network Boost toggle inside of Lenovo Vantage did the trick!

It sounds like Resolve might be interfering with your network adapter or system resources, causing a drastic drop in internet speed. You could try updating your network drivers, checking for background processes that might be affected, or testing with a different network adapter. Running an internet speed test tool while Resolve is open might help pinpoint the issue.
