Advice for creating graphics for different resolutions?

PostWed Sep 15, 2021 5:06 am

I often create a video first for 16x9 and then have to create multiple iterations of resolutions for different internet platforms. I get the reframe concept for video but that generally isn't helpful for graphics.

When I create graphics in a 16x9 timeline and then copy them onto a 9x16 timeline I get chaotic results. The graphics are resized and placed in odd positions. Essentially starting from scratch is required for the new graphics which is very time consuming.

I understand that I might need to resize and move graphics a bit for different resolutions but the results I'm getting are not just graphics that don't fit anymore but graphics that are weirdly moved and sized on the screen.

This is true for Text and Text+.

Thanks,

Erik

You don't have many choices:
1) di a graphic for each master
2) di a graphic that is middle of the road and it can be reused
3) push and pull until fit.

Thanks for the response.

To make myself more clear hopefully this time.

When you put a video clip onto a timeline with different resolutions, how the video is positioned on the new timeline is both logical and predictable. Take a 16x9 clip and put it onto a 9x16, choose scale and crop, and you know what you are going to get. A video clip that will need to be repositioned likely but that's fully understandable.

When you do the same with graphics, the rules no longer apply. Try the example I listed above, only use graphics (text or text+) and look at your results. The graphics will be wildly sized and repositioned differently. This should not be in my opinion. They should respond the same as video clips.

Ah, understand.

Can you convert them to compound clip one they are set and see how they behave?

I am mainly using compound clips and unfortunately, the behavior is exactly the same. It's almost like resizing of graphics has not been addressed in Davinci Resolve the way video clips have been.
