6-track .wav files

PostSun Sep 19, 2021 9:25 am

Hi Everyone ... new problem here ...

Setup: Resolve 17.3.1 Build 5 - 2021 M1 iMac - Big Sur 11.5.2

We recorded sound on a Tascam DR-701D, which gives you 4 separate tracks of audio plus a Stereo-Channel with a mix of those 4 channels and outputs it as a 6-track .wav file.

If we want to split these .wav files into separate tracks in Fairlight using the "Convert linked group" command ... this command is grayed out and unusable.

Any idea why?

Thx
Alex

Change the Track Format to Adaptive 6 via the Track header's contextual menu.

OK, thx, that worked ... next problem though:

3 Cams and the 6-track .wav file synced together as a Multicam-unit and Resolve turns the 6-track audio into a stereo-file inside the synced package ... any solution to this?

For Multicam, if I want to keep the possibility to mix the tracks (not cut), I make a separate angle for each track (mono or stereo), I duplicate the sound track on the timeline, changing angle for each sound track.
So I just cut the video (changing the camera) without cutting audio, I can use the premix as first sound and then mix more precisely between tracks (mainly mono HF lavs, stereo ambiant couple and mixing board outputs).
I work often for theater and dance and that technik works quite well.

Yeah Jacques,

thx a trillion ... that IS a great workaround. You really helped me a lot and I hope that BM reads this and makes a button somewhere to automate this idea.
