Ripple delete moves only video even though audio is linked?

PostThu Sep 23, 2021 8:27 am

Hi all,

I started facing a strange issue - if I select empty space and ripple delete it via DEL key, only video track gets "rippled" (shifted backwards in the timeline) while audio stays in it's place. I can confirm that both are linked as there is a link icon in the lower left corner of clip representation in the timeline.

Additional note:
Audio for the problem clip IS synced with externally recorded audio. I sync before starting to edit by placing the audio and video clips in the same bin, selecting all of them and doing the "Auto sync audio via waveform". I then move audio files back into their separate, dedicated bin(s) where they remain for the rest of the project's life.

What might be the culprit here?

Is the Auto Track Selector of the audio track enabled?

You've probably turned off the Auto Track Selector icon for one or more of the audio tracks:

Hi all!

Thanks for chippin' in, unfortunately, that is not it :(. I am aware of the auto track selector and I can confirm that it is properly used in this case. Still, selecting the video does not automatically select it's linked audio, nor does it work vice versa (selecting the audio does not select the video track).

Very, very awkward...

So is it an issue with ripple deleting gaps, or with selecting clips? If you're selecting a clip and the linked audio is not also selected, that would be controlled by Timeline -> Linked Selection, which may be turned off.

However rippled deleting a gap does not involve selecting any clips (the gap itself is selected). EDIT: But actually this is the issue, see next post.

Oh that's it actually - Timeline -> Linked Selection

Ripple deleting gaps without Linked Selection enabled will not move the audio, despite the fact that no clips are actually selected.

That's kind of unintuitive. Anyway, you must have Linked Selection turned off, so turn it on and it'll be good.

Wow, thank you so much for this. I had the exact same issue. To resolve the issue, you are correct that you have to turn on Linked Selection. Turning it on also resolved my issue. Thank you so much! :D
