Phantom 4k raw in Colour managed workflow

PostTue Sep 28, 2021 10:24 pm

Hi

Is anyone using Phantom 4k footage in a Resolve's colour managed workflow?

It seems a little funky but maybe it is just me?

For a start I need to really get access to Phantom log1 (I know it is not really log as we know it) This isn't possible if my timeline is set up rec 709 with Colour management.. Rec 709 from the phantom is too clippy and it needs smoothed in to place before the grade. Log 1 with a few tweaks is the best starting place but I need to work non-colour managed to do this.

thanks in advance for any tips..

It should be fairly easy to work with it if your timeline working space is log like DaVinci Wide Gamut / Intermediate.
In general it will look much more contrasty than cinema cameras due to the more limited dynamic range coupled with the usually harsh/bright lighting needed for the high shutterspeed but tweaking it should feel as easy as "normal" starting from log just in the reverse direction so to speak.
