When I drop a video clip shot with an iPhone 12 pro into Davinci Resolve timeline the color changes. (seems the saturation has been reduced). When I export the desaturated clip to see if it's just how davinci displays it the clip is still desaturated when I play it back in the Mac's default video player. What's going on? Are there project settings I need to set in order for Davinci Resolve to not alter the clips I drop into it, so that all iPhone 12 pro clips I drop into Davinci lookas they look in my phone?
That sounds like you've been filming in HDR mode (Dolby Vision I think). The reason you see it 'normal' on your phone is because it's an HDR screen and the original file has metadata telling how to display it on such display.
Turn it of when filming or learn how to process HDR footage to be displayed for SDR output. There are probably plenty of YouTube vids on this topic.
Thank you for the reply shebbe. But my Macbook Pro also displays the video just as great as it does on my iPhone. When I air drop the clip from my phone to my Macbook Pro it still looks amazing. It's only when I drop it into Davinci Resolve that it becomes desaturated and flat.
Here's the original shot on my iPhone and uploaded from my Macbook Pro (where I have Davinci Resolve 16 installed):
