Screen Composite Mode darkens the image!

Hi, I'm trying to use some lens flares on top of my shots to be able to color correct them. They are put on top of the shots with a "screen" composite mode on the timeline. The problem is when I adjust the midtones to be lower, the flares turn to dark the image!!! How is this possible with a screen operation? It cant be a real screen/add operation since that operation can only add light.

Is there something I'm doing wrong?

Thanks.

I am also having the same problem. It must be a bug, because screen is never supposed to darken an image. Now I have to go back to flame to finish.

checked in version 10.1.4, and it still happens.

Things that you can check:

1) are you ACES or YRGB?
2) are the images 444 or 422?
3) are you mixing video range and data range?

(it could well be a bug...)

Are you combining them in the Edit Timeline, or in a Color Layer Node?

On the Edit Timeline in 10.1.4, screen works fine over here. I used JPGs from the wikipedia page about Screen Mode.

I am most certainly combining in the timeline. And it definitely is darkening the image below it, which should never happen. . .

hi i was having the same problem and was trying to solve it and i think i found a workaround

for me applying a color space transform node without changing any settings then plug it in the layer mixer node fixed it and works fine without darkening anything

i think it has something to do with gamma spaces but am still learning these stuff

so maybe someone more experienced can explain to us whats really the reason behind that

hope that helps
