Resolve Studio 17.4 Does Not Complete Startup

After upgrade, during startup the app appears to freeze on the loading screen whilst displaying "Loading Video Codecs"

My Last Known Good: Resolve Studio 17.3.2

I have:
- upgraded to the latest Nvidia Studio drivers: 472.12
- rebooted
- uninstalled / reinstalled
- waited over 10 minutes at start screen
- never had this problem before
- reverted successfully to 17.3.2

In a File Explorer window, go to:

C:\Program Files\Blackmagic Design\DaVinci Resolve

and run CaptureLogs

This will place a Resolve log file named similar to this on your Windows desktop: DaVinci-Resolve-logs-20181228_140434.zip (You may not see the .zip extension if your system is set to hide known extensions).

Then open Windows System Information and do a File - Save (Not a File Export), which will generate a .NFO file.

Place both those files on a file sharing site and provide links to the files here.

Startup did not complete for me either immediately after installation. I killed the process and launched again without issue. Kind of. I have a few other issues though.

Clips using the 3D keyer are hit and miss. Only the green screen clip renders. Everything else is black. I reworked with the new version of the keyer with limited success.

One 1080p clip now has a 4:3 aspect ratio leaving part of the clip black.

I get "ADR Font is not available" when I go into Fairlight.

Hi Sam, We think that this issue could be because of an old Intel driver. Can you please check if there is an update available for your intel driver and try that?

Updated to 17.4 and half of the installed VST plugins stopped working. I tried everything - it's useless. Rolled back to version 17.3.2.

Well Spotted !!!

The Intel device is used for an ancillary display. Unfortunately - I don't seem to be able to upgrade the integrated device driver - as Windows says that it is the latest, and the motherboard manufacturer offers no solution (as their driver refuses to install).

DR is not configured to use the Intel device (i.e. manually set to the Nvidia GPU), but the startup still freezes.

To work-around - I can (for now):
- Disable the Intel device in device manager
- Start Davinci
- Re-enable the device

The Intel installer said "Your system has a driver that is locked to manufacturers specifications..." and quit.

So I went back to the manufacturer and found some additional instructions, that were loosely around:

1 - Download manufacturer driver
2 - Disconnect from Internet
3 - Uninstall device (inc. removal of drivers)
4 - Reboot and confirm device still not installed (repeat step 3-4. if nesc.)
5 - Install from previous downloaded driver package
6 - Reconnect to Internet

and Viola !!! The drivers updated and Davinci is Happy !!!

I hope it's okay that I sent Dwaine Maggart a PM with a file sharing link of the files requested. I am completely new to the forum, so I don't know if piggybacking on other conversations is normal etiquette in this community. After uninstalling and reinstalling the DR 17.4 update, when I try to open DR, the Task Manager will show that the DR program starts to open, and then it just stops running and the task ends in task manager. Thanks for the help!

@Delia: You also have a very old Intel graphics driver installed. Do what Sam above did to update to the current driver.
