I believe I encountered the same issue reported by Walter. Maybe a Windows 10 thing?
In 17.3.2 I had a magic mask on the first node of a grade and wanted to cache it for real-time playback. I set caching to 'User' mode and then enabled caching for the node in question. In 17.3.2 the caching worked as expected and I was able to play the balance of the grade in real-time.
Upgraded to 17.4 and opened this same project and cannot get the caching to work. I tried deleting the cache, etc. If I set to 'Smart' caching it looked like it was going to cache the clip but in the end it still did not playback in real-time so my guess is that it didn't really cache the results from the magic mask node.
I'm not in front of my machine at the moment but I'll try again Monday and see if I can give more specifics.
