I'm used to select a clip/segment in the edit page and [ALT+drag up] to duplicate it, and it always worked.

now in window it works only a fraction fo the time, instead it try to duplicate it but stay in the same track (as in if I want to duplicate and slide it instead of duplicate above).

did this behaviors changed?

edit: it looks that after a restart it does behave normally, i will keep an eye on it.

I have experienced the exact same thing. I have had lots of issues with 17.4 and I think I need to go back to 17.3.2 and I think this is the first time I have ever had to downgrade (except maybe one other time when DR 16 was in beta but I am not that long-term of a user as I only started with DR 15).

it looks like that if ALT is pressed when you select and drag, will ONLY allow you to drag horizontally, while to do it vertically uup have to select, THEN press ALT plus drag.

that does not seems to be what i remember form 17.3/17.2 and it is a stepback....

No problems for me on macOS, so doesn't sound like an intentional change.

I can confirm TheBloke's answer: no problemo on OS X BigSur and 17.4. Alt+drag works as it has before.

No problem for me Walter. Can press Alt key before or after selection of clip, and DR will still duplicate the clip upwards to new track or sideways on the same track.
Have tested with various file types and audio on 4K and HD timelines.

Another no-problems here. I can alt+select in any order and drag the duplicate anywhere.

after a restart it does work as expected.... weird....
