upgraded to Resolve 17.4 UI screen way too big

Hi Team,
This is my First post as I cannot find a resolution to this matter.

Compliments to the Blackmagic developers for such a great editing software.

I have recently upgraded DaVinci Resolve to the newly released 17.4.(free version)

I have been using Resolve since the ver.15 and i never had problems, however today when launching the software the UI of the workspace was way to big and scaled in a way too large to effectively do some editing.

If i scale the windows display at 100% or 150% the other apps and icons are way too small ( the current setting is a t 250% recommended by windows).

I have a 4k screen and a nvidia 1050.

are there any settings somewhere or is there something i can do to avoid this problem.

Thank you for your help

Hi,
I have the same problem. Did you find a solution?
DR has always worked fine for me too until now. Downgrading to 17.3 at least set things back to normal.
Seems many of the upgrades are for Mac, and maybe BM are leaving Windows behind?
It is disappointing. Hopefully it will be fixed soon, I paid for the Studio version.

100% UI scaling on 4K monitor? One can hardly read the text on the screen with 100% scaling.

Anyway, it is better to right-click on the Fusion and/or Resolve EXE file. Choose Properties then Compatibility Tab.
Click on Change High DPI Setting. Check the box for Override high DPI scaling behavior and choose System from the dropdown. See image.
However, I think UI scaling issue needs to be fixed. It worked perfectly until version 17.3.x.

Hello everyone. I have the same problem too...

Thanks Suhaib Siddiqi, your solution works but only partially, the interface is smaller but very grainy.

This DPI issue is a long story and I wonder

1: if there is another temporary solution
2: if BMD will one day resolve permanently ...

(I realize now how similar BMD is to BDSM ... a creepy coincidence?)

BMD (s) please fix this !!

Actually setting a custom 249% in the monitor scaling settings seems to have temporarily solved the issue.

Hope this helps

I know it doesn't help the Windows users, but for the first time ever I can read the UI text in Linux.

Adding to this for the benefit of people trying to google solutions.

UI scaling has been an issue on 4K screens forever and BMD doesn’t care. They don’t care so much they won’t even bother reading your email if you’re a Studio paid customer and will copy-paste their standard responses on how you have two options, 100 and 200%.

Fine, we know this. It won’t change until they change the engine and they don’t plan to. Whatever.

But if you have a 32” screen you can’t have your desktop at 125% just so that resolve will go to 100% instead of 200% and if you have multiple monitors, a custom resolution is also not an option.

Prior to resolve 17.4, you could force a 100% scaling of their UI independently of the desktop scaling via a few different ways, one of them being a powershell command line switch. That doesn’t work anymore, or any other method that used to work.

Their response:
“we anticipate no changes in this regard at this time. Most likely the result is the new QT library used for the interface. There were NO command-line switches inherent to Resolve, you were modifying something on the OS level.”

For whatever reason, BMD don’t care about customers grading on 32 inch 4k monitors being used for anything other than resolve. I get it, they have my money, and I’m not a big fish in their income stream.

We can collectively dream of the day they make a properly scalable UI. In the meantime, folks buy 1440p monitors for resolve, or a 40+” 4K monitor, or a dedicated workstation that does only resolve and nothing else at 32” 4k and wear glasses. Those are the options.

I solved this problem for myself. The problem is I don't know how I did it. So, here is what I did. I leave it to those better at this (probably everyone on this forum) to work it out.

I have a
-Thinkpad X1 Extreme laptop
-Wide viewing angle & High density FlexView Display 3840x2160 (3840x2160@60Hz)
-Intel UHD Graphics 630 (Lenovo)
-4095MB NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti with Max-Q Design
As a second monitor: SyncMaster (1920x1080@60Hz)

I changed the settings as described earlier in this string and rebooted. That in itself did not change it. I then fiddled with moving the screen to the 2nd monitor and back, changing from running Resolve in full screen to running in a window to back again. somewhere in there the screen changed to pre-Resolve 17.4 size.

I hope this helps.

Hey :)
I've just created an account in this forum to add a +1 for the 150% UI scaling.
I've just updated my Davinci Studio to 17.4.4 and of course nothing has been changed for this problem.
... maybe in the next update

Hello everyone. I have the same issue. Just updated to resolve 17.4.6 and seems that Blackmagic had not fixed the issue sins 17.4 release.
I had tried to change dpi settings and nothing helped.
