How do I know my graphic card will handle it

PostTue Oct 26, 2021 2:46 pm

Hello,
I've been using the free version of Resolve for years now. I've got a GH5 and I want to be able to edit 10 bit footage. My graphic card is GeForce RTX 2070 . Editing 8 bit footage has been wonderful and easy even 4K full quality. HOw can I be sure my current card can edit 10 bit before I spend $ 300 to buy the Studio version. Thank you !

2070 is a nice general purpose card. There are plenty of GPU accelerated FX that will eat up all your GPU and your GPU will become the bottleneck, but in general your card is fine. If you were always using noise reduction, optical flow slow motion, Magic Mask, SuperScale for upresolution, then you'd soon discover your GPU is very slow for those jobs. Depends on what you do

If you google

Nvidia decode encode matrix

You'll end up on the Nvidia webpages that show what your card can decode.

The big issue is 4.2.2 HEVC. If your camera is recording that then nothing Nvidia currently sells will handle it. You're counting on either your CPU brute forcing the decode or if you have a recent Intel laptop or desktop using QuickSync to decode it.

If you are brute forcing it likely best to transcode the file before editing
