[bug] No audio in source viewer for specific multicam angle

PostSat Oct 30, 2021 11:01 pm

I have a number of multicam clips that do not play audio in the source viewer when a particular angle is selected. When the multicam clip is opened in a timeline, that angle plays back just fine. Same when a clip from the multicam is placed on a timeline; the audio from that angle can be selected and it plays back. The problem is *only* in the source viewer.

I also have a large number of similar multicams (same source / codec / angle / track configuration), which all work properly previewing audio from the relevant angle. For the multicams that are broken, all were working previously, and all are broken on the same angle.

I've found several other similar reports of issues with source viewer audio, none of which have any resolution:

Does anyone have any workaround suggestions? For now, I'm logging my clips using an alternate audio angle (the on-camera mic instead of the audio recorder), but it would be really nice if I could preview the audio I'm actually going to use...

Can you share a sample clip / file thats not working for you?

Potentially, if you can tell me how to export a multicam clip in a way that would show the problem. I can't find a way to export multicams at the moment.

Perhaps you could create an otherwise empty project containing a single sample multicam that shows this problem, and save it as a Davinci Resolve Archive (dra) file?

I'll see if I can reproduce it that way. Because the problem developed on previously working clips, I'm not sure how to get a "broken" clip on command. That's why I'm posting here — to see if anyone knows why it broke!

A new data point: Changing my speaker configuration to 5.1 and upgrading to 17.4.2 seems to have fixed at least one of the previously broken multi-cams. I'll have to investigate further.

Never mind. It's broken again. Which means it's inconsistent. Argh.

With further experience, I can add a couple more details.

1) The audio on a particular angle can stop working seemly at random. I can be logging a multiclip with everything working fine, switch focus to the timeline, and then the angle will have no audio playback when I switch focus back to the source viewer. This can happen without closing and re-opening Resolve or even the timeline that I'm editing to. There's no apparent trigger; it seems to happen in the course of normal editing.
2) Once an angle has stopped working, it seems to staay dead permanently.
3) More than one angle can lose audio playback in a single multiclip.
4) The bug still exists in v18.0.1
5) I've had the problem on both Linux & Windows
