Where is "Timeline Color Space" setting?

PostWed Nov 17, 2021 12:51 am

The Color Management page of the Project Settings has changed dramatically in 17.4.1. Looking through the November 2021 manual I see several references to the "timeline color space" setting, but it no longer appears on the Color Management page as it once did.

Where can I find a complete set of documentation that describes all of the changes - including "Timeline Color Space" - in Resolve 17.4.1?

Timeline color space appears when you choose the "custom" preset. Also, clicking on custom will populate all the fields with the values of the preset that was selected before changing it to custom. If there are settings you want to change, but there are also some that you aren't sure about, it can be helpful to pick a preset that's close to what you need before switching it to custom, and then just change the options you know you need to be different.

NOTE: I haven't used 17.4.1 yet, but I'd imagine this hasn't changed since 17.2.2

Do remember the color managed workflow is still broken with fusion and most of the timeline effects in the edit tab.

They did not fix that in the 17.4 rework of the settings.

Am I wrong, or wasn't this just valid if your computer screen is not calibrated to sRGB Gamma 2.4? It was this Fusion or Managed LUT for the viewer, right?

Upon further investigation (now in 17.4.2) I see that "Timeline Color Space" will never appear if you're using the Color Managed workflow (i.e. Color Science = DaVinci YRGB Color Managed).

Very confusing.

So is there not a way to have both r709 and Rec2020 timelines in one project? I have a wide array of footage both HDR and SDR, and need to have both HDR and SDR timelines for various reasons. FCPX and Premiere its easy to choose what color space the timeline is in.

Im am also delivering in both SDR and HDR so I can't just have then entire project set to one color space.

The only temp solution ive found so far is changing the project colorspace whenever I need to export a timeline but that seems very odd to have to do it that way.

Am I missing something?

Set the timeline color space to 2020, then set the outputs for each timeline deliverable

When you need SDR delivery, change Output Color Space to SDR Rec.709
My Biases:

You NEED training.
You NEED a desktop.
You NEED a calibrated (non-computer) display.
