17.4.2.9 Popup on every start Intel Hardware Acceleration

PostSat Nov 20, 2021 2:06 pm

My System has an Intel Core I7-4770 CPU with integrated Intel HD Graphics 4600.
Since update to 17.4.2.x i get on startup every time a popu window that informs me that
"intel Hardware Acceleration
Intel hardware accelerated decode and encode have been disabled as the current intel graphics driver is not compatible with DaVinci Resolve. Please update your drivers to enable this feature"

There is no update available for HD 4600 for my system, nor on the intel homepage. the last driver is from 04.11.2020 20.19.15.5171, it´s a Dell System.

I´ve tried every combination in the prefs to get rid of this info screen without any luck.
GPU Configuration with GPU processing mode Auto, no Auto, OpenCL, CUDA,
GPU Auto, no Auto.

How can i fix this? Is this a bug or something strange on my system?

I'm getting the same thing.

I have this:

System Manufacturer: ASUSTeK COMPUTER INC.
System Model: Strix 15 GL503GE
BIOS: GL503GE.316 (type: UEFI)
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-8750H CPU @ 2.20GHz (12 CPUs), ~2.2GHz
Memory: 24576MB RAM
Available OS Memory: 24430MB RAM

I contacted Intel and there is a new driver available, but I was told I had to get it from Asus. I chatted with Asus support but they are not currently supporting windows 11... or something like that... end result is that I can't currently get the new driver and as such I can't see if that fixes the issue of the error screen. If It's just an errant error message I don't really care. Resolves seems to run fine. I'm confused as to resolve works with the onboard intel graphics and Nvidia. Windows 11 seems to work fine. Perhaps It's a none issue. I work with optimized media and everything runs well.

I did download a 12 BRAW file from BM and more or less works... but of course optimized works much better.

Let me know how it goes for you. Thanks for posting this.

Try a new driver directly from Intel. It should be okay.

Thanks for the response, Andreas.

When I try to download the driver from Intel it says that my version is tied to the computer's manufacturer, hence my contacting Asus.

I'll see if I can talk to an actual human at Intel.

But except for the pop up I think things are working.

Intel is just encouraging you to get it from Asus in case Asus has massaged something in your system. At times the stock Intel driver can break things but with an older system you either download direct from Intel or you don't upgrade. Laptop companies don't go that far back.

If the new driver doesn't work you can always roll back to the older one.

OK. I was able to get a new driver from intel. Thier tech support really helped with this.

All is good. All works fine. Back at it.

So the solution for me was to update the UHD Graphics 630 driver.

Hi -- i7-4770K with HD 4600 here (same as OP)... I updated to the latest driver from Intel (20.19.15.5171, like rmayergfx) and I'm still getting the popup. I'm also using an NVidia card as my main GPU (GTX 1060).

Any thoughts?

The latest Intel driver is

30.0.101.1069

Is the IGPU even on in your system? Most of that generation turns off the IGPU when you plug in a discrete card. If it's on turn it off. I doubt you gain much versus your 1060.

Thanks -- may I ask where you see that? The driver download page here lists 15.40.48.5171, which (for whatever reason) once installed shows up as "20.19.15.5171" in the device manager. (Got there from the search page here)

It is enabled, yes, though not used. I'll try disabling it if I can't get a recognized driver installed.

It may be the CPU is so old the newer drivers aren't supported.

If you go to

https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en ... stant.html

and use the support assistant it'll check your whole system.

But at the moment the latest Intel drivers are what I posted. I don't know how far back they support.

Why not? Maybe it has a few more bugs fixed in the code made for an older hardware and a few more new bugs introduced in the code for the modern hardware, too

Why did Nvidia drop support for older cards this year?

A fourth Gen CPU is likely a lot more than just a few bug fixes away from the current driver.

That seems to be the case. That utility showed the same (older) driver I already had installed as being the latest available.

Disabling the card has made the error dialog go away, though. Seems like there should be a "don't warn me again" option on the popup.

Thanks for the assistance.

Intel driver 30.0.101.1069 is made for Intel GPUs from 6th to latest 12th generation.
I have a 4th generation CPU (an old i5-4200M) and I can't upgrade the driver to this latest release.
To avoid the popup, I downgraded Resolve to version 17.4.1 (build 4)...
