DaVinci Resolve 17.4.2 SplashScreen crash

Hello everyone, I'm Fabrizio from Italy and this is my first post.

I upgraded today from 17.4.1 to 17.4.2 and when I launch DR, splashscreen opens, shows "loading video codecs" then crash (disappears without messages).
Install, uninstall, rebooting, reinstalling gives the same error.
Reinstalling 17.4.1 works ok as before.

Regards
Fabrizio

Hi Fabrizio,

I'm having the same issue - except I don't get as far as the crash screen. Reinstalled 17.4 and no issues.

Did you find a solution?

Thanks,

MIKE

Sorry Mike,
at the moment, no solutions with version 17.4.2

I've been going back and forth with Andres in support. So far no solution other than 17.4.1. Something about no call being made to the onboard graphics. (I have an Nvidia GPU on my laptop, too.) Waiting to see if it resolves(!) in the next release.

If you have an integrated GPU and a discrete GPU, try disabling your integrated GPU to force using the discrete one. Also update to the latest drivers manually (Windows update not necessarily going to be the latest). That worked for me to get it started, then you can select the GPU in Resolve's preferences to use. Also, see if you can set Resolve to always use the discrete GPU which on later versions of Windows 10 will be controlled by Windows in display setting, not your GPU manufacturers custom control panel.

Yep that works! Thanks for sending.

I wrote to support to let them know. Clearly a bug not calling the Intel drivers.

Yeah it's an issue on many graphics software. If possible, look out for compters without onboard graphics. It's getting harder and harder as manufacturers want to reduce watts required to run a computer, which is great for the planet, but it's crap for heavy audio and graphics work.

I resolved this issue on my Dell XPS 15 by loading a later driver set for the Radeon Vega M graphics set. Seems Dell stopped updating this driver in 2018. Note - latest version of AMD Radeon Vega Mobile I could install was 2020 V20.2
