Fail to get media type err = -1072861856 for input

PostTue Nov 23, 2021 2:30 am

Anyone know what this error means?
I'm trying to render a sequence of images, which are detected ok but Resolve essentially freezes when I click Render. Well it stalls; it does't freeze. It still "lets" me cancel the render, but doesn't actually cancel it. At that point I have to close Resolve to get out of the stalemate. It still closely cleanly though.
Then I have 1000s of lines of this error in davinci_resolve.log.1 etc files.

There is something I can't quiet wrap my head around.
Resolve does many wonderful things. But it just makes no sense to me how everything seems aimed at tiny clips of no more than 30-60s at a time. I film long continuous sequences because, well you know that's how life is after all ;) Just seems so short-sighted that you give the program anything bigger than a few minutes, it either yells at you, or crashes, or does nothing at all.

Round one I disabled the colour grade, and was able to get the video to render. Round two I had to disable the Deflicker plugin. It's only a 3min video this one actually. Ok so it's 6,000 200Mb TIF fiiles, but so what? :) 11K surely can't be that hard, with today's gear, can it? :p

How much VRAM? I have edited a 4 hours event with 3 cameras and the main camera was constantly recording for each chunk of one hour.
No hiccups in DR. But if your TIFFs are too large your hardware may be challenged.
Now that the cat #19 is out of the bag, test it as much as you can and use the subforum.

Oh the hardware is very definitely challenged, I can't actually playback the clip --at all-- :) luckily it's a statically-placed timelapse so I could get buy just with moving manually through the frames.
It's a 3090 I'm using so the VRAM is 24Gb. Not sure how I can really improve on that :E

I'd do a Render in Place into a good quality codec like DNxHR, maybe in smaller chunks and see what happens.

That's what I was doing. I had to remove the Deflicker plugin to get it to work. Once I did that the render proceeded, and I could then apply the simple Deflicker on the now-rendered DNxHR clip.
But there wasn't much on this clip. A base colour grade with a subsequent LUT, and the Spherical Stabiliser & Deflicker. Long & slow I could understand. My swap is on an NVMe so it would be survivable, as long as it pushes forwards. Not really any excuse for not working at all, though.
