Transparency over audio

PostTue Nov 23, 2021 5:33 pm

I'm trying to add transparency over some audio at the end so as to use on a live stream. How do I insert transparency?
thanks

I read the question as "how do I have a transparent alpha channel for a period of time, exported at the end of my video, while audio continues to play?"

Choose an export format that supports alpha: Quicktime / GoPro Cineform / RGB 16-bit, and check the "Export Alpha" button.

(you may want to put (on the Edit page) a Generator / Solid Color above the audio, with the opacity set to zero)

Did all these suggestions but it's still not coming out transparent.
I adjusted the opacity of the rectangle shape to 0 under 'composite' in it's settings. Wondering if that's not the right spot for changing it's opacity?

Can't you just add the audio as a media file in your streaming app? Eg in WAV format? Do you need a transparent video at all?

If you definitely do, try this:

Add a Fusion Composition set up like this:
Image

In the Fusion Composition, add a single Background node connected to MediaOut, with Alpha = 0, like this:

Then render out in Single Clip mode, Quicktime / GoPro CineForm / RGB 16-bit / Export Alpha ticked. Resolution and framerate is pretty meaningless as it's not going to be visible anyway, so 1080p / 24fps is fine, or even lower if you want to save a bit of disk space.

Confirmed working in OBS:

Thanks Tom but will this accomodate a video that has some visuals for the majority of the file but then turns to transparency?
Basically, I have a short intro video with music and I want the intro to fade out to transparency while the music continues to play out, eventually fading as well.

In that case:
- Drag the music on to a timeline, and above it add a Fusion Composition from the Effects Library:
Image

- Put the playhead over the Fusion Composition and go to the Fusion page

- Drag the video file from the Media Pool to the background of the Fusion composition, which will create node MediaIn1.
- Add a Background node, set to Alpha=0 as described earlier
- Then merge MediaIn1 over the top of the Background - Background1 goes to yellow input of Merge1, MediaIn1 goes to green input of Merge1, then pipe Merge1 to MediaOut:
Image

- Now render this timeline with the Deliver settings described as earlier. You'll have music throughout, with a picture for as long as the video lasts, and then transparency.
