This may or may not be relevant in your case, bear in mind I'm not much more than a novice on DRS17 at present.
Anyway, I had the problem of the internal mic on a new Dell Alienware laptop not appearing to work. No online search results helped me perhaps because a lot of the Windows dialogue boxes in my bang up to date Windows 10 are a lot different to those in earlier suggestions.
Eventually I right-clicked on the Speaker Icon bottom right of the screen, selected Sounds, then selected Recording, then double clicked on the Microphone Array, selected Levels and found the Levels was at zero. So it wasn't that the mic was not recording it was simply that it was on zero per cent. I've scrubbed it up to 100% and alls well :- )
I am about to do similar with a variety of other mics now. Oh and when you do actually play back do make sure you have selected the appropriate playback device by left-clicked on the Speaker Icon.
I saved a JPEG to remind myself as attached.
