Zoom capped out on Resolve 17?

PostSat Nov 27, 2021 5:57 am

Hello everyone,

Is the zoom on Resolve 17 capped out?
I was trying to zoom in on my cursor manually (moving the X and Y in the transform tab) and when I reached an X of 7680 it just wouldn't go further.
Any way to bypass this? It's pretty annoying.

That's all, thanks

Yes it is. It's capped at 4 x timeline resolution - or 3.5 x resolution when at higher resolutions like 8k.

Workaround: add a Transform OFX and use that to do the zoom and position. That can do up to 100x timeline res. Or do the transform in Fusion, which doesn't have any limit on the transform distance.

Could you elaborate on how I would achieve this?
I'm working on a project with a stupidly large image (1920x60000) that I'd like to credit scroll through.

My workflow so far has been to render the scrolling animation in a program that doesn't have that limitation. But since every change to the image requires this whole process to repeat, it's pretty suboptimal needless to say.

Opening the image in Fusions seems to just crash DaVinci entirely (Beta 18).

If you read the Fusion training guide it tells you how to use Text+ to do a credit scroll without crazyness like that.

I should have elaborated with credit style roll. There's no alternative to scrolling through the image, since it consists lots of drawn characters very akin to the outro of the Durarara series (first hit on Youtube for 'Durarara!! Ending 1', due to my inability to post links on the forums).

Be careful, with such a large image, you may have VRAM issues while rendering.
Ryzen 5800X3D
32GB DDR4-3600
RTX 3090
DeckLink 4K Extreme 12G

Yes, they all intersect.

But yes, chopping it of in even bits with Photoshop and sync up the scrolling movement is something I have in mind as a last resort. But it adds even more complexity over simply rendering out the scrolling animation with Kdenlive for example (which already isn't really optimal).

Someone above mentioned a workaround for said limitation and I'd be interested in that to simplify the whole process.

Edit: Looks like I'm able to post links now. That's the video I'm working on:

At the given timestamp (9 s) it starts scrolling through that really large canvas (1920x60000).
Don't get me wrong, I'd happily take advice on how to streamline this process since I'm rather new to DaVinci anyway. Ideally I could just import the image, zoom in to fill the screen, add two keyframes for the Y-position and call it a day. Right now i'm doing said workaround to prerender the whole ordeal in Kdenlive.
