Questions about archlinux and Resolve

PostWed Dec 01, 2021 7:01 am

Hello,

I'm using Windows 11 just because 2 things do not work with Davinci Resolve Studio under Linux Manjaro.

https://manjaro.org/download/#cinnamon is an https://archlinux.org/ based system.

Installing Studio is really easy and straightforward with pamac (gui) or yay (terminal)

Things that do not work :
Bluetooth and speed editor
AAC sound support.

Both problems have their own topic on this forum.
Do Blackmagic plan to add Bluetooh and AAC support on Linux.
If no, why ?

I'd probably try PopOS
5950x, 3090, 128GB.

Pop OS is a Linux distribution : it will not solve the 2 above problems (Bluetooth and AAC)

AAC support in Resolve on Linux has never been there.

Apparently BM can not cover the license cost in with everything else in the $300 purchase price.

I doubt AAC is going to drop its fee.

So I am doubtful BM will ever add it.

The lack of AAC is why I stuck to windows.

Thanks.

Does that mean BM pays for
an AAC license for Windows
an AAC license for MacOs
no license for Linux

or BM pays for
an AAC license independent of the OS

Resolve Studio price is the same (Linux, Mac Os or Windows)
In the second case, AAC support would not be more expensive; just more work for developers.

I'm using MS Windows just for 2 software programs:
Davinci Resolve and MS FS 2020
FS 2020 runs under Linux Steam version, but it's slower than under Windows.

Windows, I believe they use the license included with your GPU for h.265. Thus no software h.265 support

Mac OS appears to include more codecs than Microsoft, so you get more in free for them.

Linux is obviously not going to have any licenses included in the OS as Ubuntu isn't going to pay MPEG for every install. So Black Magic has to pay MPEG and all the other license holders.
