Bug in Davinci 17.4.2 Build 9

PostFri Dec 03, 2021 2:52 pm

Davinci keeps ticking me off with glitches when I use the program. The media pool show glitches instead of the actual preview and in the timeline when I expand or stretch things, the video is flickering, looping, and glitching when I edit videos. I close the program, turned off my laptop, reinstalled the program and nothing worked. It won't stop. Please fix this. Thank You.

Osei, it's all very well saying "Please fix this", but you've provided very little information.
What GPU does your computer have, what driver version, how much ram?
What is the source of your video clips, their codec and framerate? These are all things that can affect the working of Resolve.

Does your computer meet the minimum recommended requirements for Resolve as shown below?

You only need the Blackmagic Design Desktop Video if you are using Blackmagic hardware such as a Decklink card.

Well, I don't have the money to get it. I'm just editing light videos. 8GB of ram is embedded into the motherboard. This is just a glitch on your end.

Resolve requires decent hardware to function properly whichever version, free or paid, that you are running. That's why BMD post a guide to minimum system requirements.
For instance, you only have 8GB of RAM. If your graphics device does not have it's own on board vRAM it is sharing the main memory. As Windows typically will use around 3.5GB of memory to run it doesn't leave enough available to run Resolve properly. This is why 16GB is recommended.
You can see in my signature what I am using to run Resolve. No glitches here.

If you can't upgrade your hardware, get an NLE that is lighter on your hardware.
Lightworks is coming to my mind (no pun intended).
Now that the cat #19 is out of the bag, test it as much as you can and use the subforum.

Ok. Well, I will try to still use DaVinci. It is just that it has more features, no restrictions to 1080p, unlike Lightworks. I have Shotcut, but it doesn't respond when I make videos. Even when I click on a clip or click on the type of font I want.

Now I'm using 17.4.6 and it still giving me issues. When I change the playback mode to run smoothly, It still glitches, flickers, and loops. This is getting annoying. And this is not the system's fault. I want an update that puts an end to this glitch. Please fix this. Thank you.

It will not happen. Never ever, since it's your hardware.
And more than 1080p? Are you kidding?
If you don't like Lightworks, you can try an older version of Resolve. They were made when weaker computers were the norm. You'll find many older versions on the Support page by scrolling down in the left column.

Well, maybe Davinci should improve for lower-end machines and mid-range ones. Any machine can run smoothly. I really wish for that. Plus the bug of the flickering and lagging and looping must go away. I can't finish my videos with this. I understand I can downgrade, but I want to stay up to date on DaVinci, what new features and fixes they will add y'know?

The next version may even be more demanding on the GPU.
No flickering, lagging or looping here.

As has been said, your computer is inadequate to run Resolve, and Blackmagic are not going to dumb it down to work on low end hardware. Did you not read the Minimum System Requirements I posted in December?
As Uli says, the next version is likely to be more demanding of the hardware.
The flickering, lagging, and looping is not a bug, it's your computer unable to run Resolve.

Yes, I did. It's just software, not the hardware. Davinci even said that my computer is ok to do it on this.

You mean Blackmagic said your computer will run Resolve, DaVinci Resolve is the product name. If so suspect the video clips you are trying to run, and don't say that they run fine in VLC or Windows Media Player as that is no indication that they will run in Resolve. Where did they come from?

Since you didn't like my suggestion of Lightworks, because it's limited to HD (actually, only the free version), you are chasing an Illusion. Your hardware will never ever work with 4K/UHD. Not at all.

What you could try is converting your footage to DNxHR and working in 720p. That might do.

If that doesn't help, for me it's case closed.
