Sonarworks SoundID Reference for Room EQ Correction

PostThu Jan 06, 2022 7:19 pm

We use Sonarworks SoundID Reference very easily in Cubase Pro's Control Room: it applies headphone and speaker correction without affecting the Master bus and mixdowns.

In Resolve / Fairlight, it appears that the only way to apply their plugin is on the Master bus, which would presumably change the EQ of deliveries. The usual advice to "be sure to disable the room correction plugin before exporting" will definitely not happen at some point, and deliverables will get sent out with inaccurate sound. Is there a better way to apply the plugin? How do we best use Sonarworks SoundID Reference with Resolve / Fairlight?

Configure a Monitoring Buss fed from Stem Busses within a Fairlight Configuration Preset as a global preference for new Timelines.

The Monitoring Buss should be Bus 1 as the default source in the Fairlight monitoring panel with individual Stems or Sum Busses available separately either for monitoring sans SoundID or as sources for deliverables.

Thanks Reynaud, that looks like a good solution.

Unfortunately, setting this up in a new project caused DR 17.4.3 to crash when opening the Fairlight panel.

Have to set this idea on the back burner. Every time we try to open Fairlight it crashes DR.

Just a followup: we found it works better to apply the room correction system wide in the OS, rather than in DR.

It works brilliantly. Highly recommend Sonarworks SoundID Reference.

While I also own Reference and highly recommend it. There are some problems with the software on Windows. On my system but also of a friend of mine we experience random audio device exits/disconnects and reconnects short after. This can result in audio dropouts or even depending on which software is currently using it make that software straight up crash.

If you have the possibility to run it in a monitoring mode loaded as plugin it's much more reliable than system wide I'd say. Can't speak for MacOS though.

I presume you reported this to Soundworks?

We have had no issues with ours.

I haven't yet reported it tbh. But thanks on letting me no you don't experience this. I've had it across multiple versions.. Might try the latest update and see if it persists and report if necessary.
