Two Versions of Resolve Studio - Same Computer?

PostWed Jan 19, 2022 1:41 pm

Has the recommendation against having two versions of DaVinci Resolve Studio in the same computer, —same hard drive— changed in Resolve 17?
I’m running Resolve Studio 16.2.8 and getting ready to upgrade to 17. Of course, I’m making database and project backups before the upgrade.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

windoze? trivial, but not (really not) supported or recomended
windows = seperate databases . rename Resolve folder . install v17 . done
some funkyness to be expected- Avid artist is not seen anymore in v16 is my only real "arrrggg"

No changes, it's still not recommended (strongly not recommended).

But you've wanted an excuse for that second computer, right? Might as well top off it's capabilities as you may want to fully migrate once you've completed all your DR 16 work in progress.

On Mac OSX I rename the application folder which prevents it from being replaced by a new install. I had R16 and R17 running on the same Mojave system without issues.

Peter, thanks a lot for the suggestion.
To follow your suggestion takes more than just copying the folder as you have suggested.
I'm going to make a single clean install of Resolve 17 and backup my database, project files, stills and power grades. Thanks once again for the suggestion. I'm going to avoid the risk.

For those interested in keeping the two versions of Resolve, here is a detailed video on how to do it:

Good luck!
