Upgrade from Studio 16 Mac intel to 17 on M1 Mac

PostThu Jan 20, 2022 6:34 pm

Hi,

I have a studio licence for Resolve Studio 16 on my old machine which was a (now dead and gone) intel MacBook. The good news is that I have still got the activation key card and SD card.
I'd like to install Studio 17 for apple silicon on my shiny new machine. My question is what is the best way to do this without having to pay for a new copy of Studio 17?
1. Should I install Studio 16 on the Mac which would necessarily run under Rosetta and upgrade from there? I fear that this would be messy and I would end up with a really untidy and potentially slow install.
2. Is there a way to get a clean install of Studio 17 that I can enter my Studio 16 activation key into?
3. Is there another way?

Appreciate any help on this one...

Cheers

install DR 17.4.3 and enter your key

if this not work, then deactivate DR on the intel mac (over the menu),
and activate both again, by enter your license key.

every key allow two activations.

Just Install Studio 17 on your new Mac and register using your Studio 16 licence. It runs natively on Apple silicon so you don't need to run it under rosseta.

If you older Mac went dead with the registration, you can still install it on the new Mac as the license gives you one additional activation.

Meanwhile you can contact the costumer support and they will release the licence locked on your dead machine so that you will always have one spare handy in case something goes wrong the next time.

Thanks, It is what I thought to try but I can't figure out how to download Studio 17 without having to pay first.

You do not need to contact BM for license release. It will be done automatically once you activate the license on a third computer.
To be more precise - the key allows you to have 2 active installations at a time. Once you try to activate it on a third computer it will be activated but the previous TWO will be deactivated, so you will end up with one activation (the third computer) and a "spare" activation you can use whenever you want.

Always better to deactivate the old license if you still can. I have also seen issues with the automatic method.
Now that the cat #19 is out of the bag, test it as much as you can and use the subforum.
