Fuji F Log in ACES

PostThu Jan 20, 2022 7:25 pm

Hello,

I have footage shot on a Fuji XT3 in f-log, which was recorded to a Ninja V externally in ProRes 10 bit 422. I was wondering if it was possible to edit this footage in the ACES color space? When using the Color Space Transform plugin is see FujiFilm F Log listed under Input Gamma but nothing listed under Input Color Space.

Thanks

Hi, rec2020 should be correct.

So Rec 2020 will give me the ability to properly work in aces without a dedicated Fuji IDT?

No, sorry, I was wrong, I mistakenly thought of the CST.
There is a .dctl file from dehancer, google it. I think that is more what you are looking for.

Sorry again for the confusion.

You can still use the Color Space Transform to convert it to whatever you'd need like ACEScct. The .dctl is for when you want the color space to be available as IDT when using ACES as colormanaged workflow.

So what would be the input color space with no IDT? Also if I were to use rec2020 would this give me correct colors when using CST to go to ACES?

Last I checked ACEs doesn't have an input color space for Fufi F Log, but Resolve Color Management does. That should give you the correct staring point, and is a bit more neutral than ACEs. And no guessing.....

Are you referring to the color management tab in the project settings? My goal is to work within the ACES color space with my f log footage. Does your approach achieve this?

ACEs and Resolve Color Management are both color management systems -- but they're not the same. My point was, you can work equally well in RCM, if you're not *required* to work in ACEs. You set up RCM in the same Color Management preference tab as for ACEs.

But Dehancer has a solution for Fuji F-log in ACES, not in RCM.
No, an iGPU is not enough, and you can't use HEVC 10 bit 4:2:2 in the free version.

Is there any way to work with Fuji F Log footage in ACES without the dehancer plugin?

Feels like there is a lot of confusion / noise in the thread. Let's jump back to your initial question and ask what your exact plan/purpose is because your question was already answered and I have the feeling you might not understand even what ACES means for your workflow.

Thanks

What exactly do you mean with "working in the ACES color space"?
If you mean you want to grade in ACES by having ACES' tone mapper as your output transform you can again use a CST to convert F-Log / Rec.2020 to whatever working space you'd like that ACES does support like ACEScct but any other like Arri Wide Gamut/LogC would work too. Then apply ACES Transform at the end of the grade to go to display state.

If you mean you want to grade your footage with ACES as the project wide management setting you will need the IDT for it which you can obtain as a DCTL file like Shabuda said.

There really is not much more to it.
