Footage looks warped when importing to Davinci Resolve

PostMon Jan 24, 2022 3:31 am

Hello,

I'm pretty new to video editing. It looks like when I import footage from my sony a6000 at 1440x1080 mp4 the footage in resolve looks very warped, like its been squished. The screenshot on the left is straight out of the camera but the image on the right has gone through davinci resolve.

Is there a setting that I need to change in Resolve in order to get the footage looking correct?

Try going to your project settings under the File menu, then click on the Image Scaling and make sure the Input Scaling is set to Center Crop with No Resizing.

The source clips may need to have the pixel aspect ratio set in Clip Attributes.

I have the same issue with my A5000.
The solution is simple... after dropping the video into the timeline, at the bottom of the Inspector, expand "Retime and Scaling", then change "Scaling" to "Stretch".

All,

Thank you for your quick responses!!
The one that worked the best was changing the pixel aspect ratio.

1. I tried: "Center Crop, No Resizing". Even when deleting the footage from DR and restarting, the clip looked the same;
2. Changing the "Scaling" to "Stretch" in the "Retime and Scaling" did change the footage but in the wrong direction (more warped)! I was able to get the "Open FX" -> "Transform" as a work around though.
3. Right clicking the clip and choosing Clip Attributes -> Pixel Aspect Ratio was very successful at making the footage look normal. It looks like the following Pixel Aspect Ratios gave me good results with slight variations: 1.25, DVCPRO HD, PAL 16:9, NTSC 16:9

All the pixel aspect ratios had slight variations. Does anyone know which Pixel Aspect Ratio is the best, or most correct?

DVCPro HD is the correct pixel aspect ratio.

Hello, I have the same problem and I also use the Sony A5000.

Is there a way to solve this porblem without changing the settings of the projects all the time? I am also worried that if I used stock footage that the settings will warp it even though it fixes my own footage.
