Fusion davinci vs fusion 9.0

PostThu Jan 27, 2022 7:13 pm

I think I am giving up on using fusion in resolve. I think I spent 5x more time on troubleshooting then actual work. Constant problem with media off , especially when moving fusion comp from one project to another, weird flickering in fusion comp , black screen ,,need to erase cash , reconnect media etc.
Just pointless I give up .

I only use it to create simple animations . How is anybody doing special effects for movies with fusion is beyond me.

Is stand alone FUSION 9.0 better ? Has anybody switched to FUSION free stand alone version?

yes standalone is more stable.

I feel your pain, ive always run into issues with fusion in resolve. I find just going out to standalone fusion/nuke/after effects/flame far more time efficient for anything that cannot be done in the edit/color page.

I'm sure people have had success with it, but not me.

Why Fusion 9 when Fusion 17 standalone is available? It is stable 99% of the time. And you can use render nodes to speed things up. I don't think Fusion page was ever meant for doing special effects for movies. That's what standalone is for. I doubt even Adobe dynamic link between AE and Premiere is used in serious pipelines.

I do most of my compositing and FX stuff in Fusion 9. VFX-connect is a simple mostly reliable mechanism and although Fu9 does crash several times a day, it's still usable and I'm quite familiar with it now.

I see lots of "horror stories" about Fusion in Resolve and because I'm still using Resolve 15.3 there's just no point in even trying to use the Fusion tab because it should be relabled "crash now' :-) Obviously things (must have) improved significantly two full versions later though.

Stand-alone Fusion does seem to be far more memory-efficient than Resolve Fusion so for non-trival stuff it would be my first choice, even if ResolveFusion was more reliable.

Is Fusion 17 a free version ? I thought you have to buy studio version to get it stand alone fusion 17.

I can't find a free fusion 17 .
What i see on their website is devinci resolve 17 that includes fusion but not as a stand alone.
Are you using a free stand alone fusion 17?

The last free version of standalone Fusion was 9. There's no free Fusion 17 outside of Resolve.

Fusion in Resolve is a great addition for small tasks. The possibility to just quickly make use of compositing tools without the cumbersome roundtrip has helped me many times.
But yes, for any complex composition task, and they tend to get complex quickly, standalone (which is Nuke in my case) is faster, better and more stable. The complexity level at which to switch to standalone is not all that high, but still many cases remain safely below that threshold.

I'm sorry, it seems I got confused, I was certain that I have recently installed Fusion 17 standalone free on my second PC that doesn't have a dongle to run some tests...It generally exited my sphere of interest since I can use the Render node on additional machines with no additional license or dongle.

Render nodes don't need dongles, so you're half right. :)

There is no excuse. I just hope it was merely a "momentary lapse of reason" and not a permanent state :?
