DaVinci Resolve Studio 17 can't open but 16 can

PostSat Jan 29, 2022 6:12 am

Hi there

I bought the DaVinci Resolve Speed Editor and had it installed and working with DaVinci Resolve Studio 17 on my old tablet. I have been enjoying using both the last few months.

Since then I've bought a new 2-in-1 laptop (HP Spectre x360 Convertible 14) and have tried to use the Speed Editor on it. Unfortunately I haven't been able to do so as DaVinci Resolve Studio 17 refuses to start and Speed Editor doesn't work with v16.8.2. I've tried v17.0, v17.1.1, v17.4 and v17.4.3 but none of the v17 will start and only v16.8.2 functions.

Could someone pleases assist. I would greatly appreciate some help.

I've tried the steps in the '14ways to get DaVinci Resolve' to work but haven't had any luck. Some of the steps I've tried include
1. disabling the Intel IrisXe Graphics but DaVinci prompts that there is unsupported GPU processing
2. increasing the virtual RAM
3. launching Resolve under compatibility mode (Windows 8)
4. launching Resolve with admin rights
5. disabling antivirus application
6. reinstallation after removing DaVinci and deleting profile data (Roaming\Blackmagic Design)
7. updating my display adapter driver

Thanks for the quick reply.
I did come across and read up on that exchange and had verified that the laptop has the latest drivers installed by using Intel Driver and Support Assistant mentioned.

In my case DaVinci Resolve 17 refuses to even boot up whereas LAE has been able to use Resolve 17 but is having issues with performance.

In fact I just installed DaVinci Resolve Studio 17.4.3 on the old tablet running Intel UHD Graphics 620 and Resolve 17 boots up functions without any issues on that device. Both devices have 1GB adapter RAM and are using Windows 11.

sorry, that's as far as i can go - was looking at similar pc, but couldn't find out whether irisxe was working with 17, so gave up on that idea.

All good and thanks for posting what you found.
I'll keep this thread updated if I find anything. For now it doesn't seem workable on my HP Spectre 14 running driver 30.0.101.1191

Hi there
FYI with some help from Dwaine Maggart and local support, Resolve Studio 17 now works with my laptop. I'm not sure what actually made it work. I uninstalled an Intel OpenGL item in the Windows application & feature section, fully uninstalled Resolve with all components, reboot then reinstalled Resolve 17.4.3 with all components in the installation package
