Davinci resolve shuts down my pc when rendering or editing!

PostThu Feb 24, 2022 4:45 pm

Hey everyone, new here. Im a big resolve fan but I'm in big trouble and need some smarter people to help!!

Two weeks ago or so I started experiencing serious crashing issues with DaVinci resolve studio when rendering and occasionally when editing, ( not just rendering H264, but Cineform too). I have purchased the studio version legally and have the activation card if required to prove I'm not a pirate haha.

3900X running at 3.8
1080ti 11GB
48GB ram
X470
windows 10 latest

I started to troubleshoot, first downgraded to 17.4 studio on windows 10.
I DDCed my graphics drivers and clean install with the nvida studio drivers
I reapplied thermal paste on my CPU and GPU.
I turned down max render to different framerates still no luck.
I turned off any OC on GPU and CPU.
Benchmarked and maxed out my hardware for testing, no problem or cut off
Checked the bios and tried to reinstall but discovered was the latest version
Turned off a load of extra features when rendering like the playback video.

I'm super stuck with it guys, have tried everything to fix it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I would do a RAM test (https://www.memtest86.com/). I was having lots of mystery crashes, and it turned out I had a bad RAM stick. I replaced it and all is solid (knock on wood.)

Shutdown with no warning or messages?

Bad PSU or maybe under powered.

Overheating maybe .

How did you benchmark? You need something that will push your GPU and CPU at near 100%. Most tests will push one or the other.

when was the last time you gave your pc a good blow job? ;-)

i'm always amazed at how much dust gets sucked into coolers on the cpu / gpu, in what i consider a relatively dust free environment.

of course, ram / power supply failure could be a much more expensive failure ;-(

Update....

Still no luck, I tried the memtest and got no errors, Cleaned it out for dust, now whenever I press play on davinci I get a hard power cut.

The rest of the computer works fine, it's just davinci that's causing issues still :(

Typically that points to a power supply problem or a bad GPU.
Healthy hardware might crash from a software problem, but shutting down is normally a hardware issue.
No, an iGPU is not enough, and you can't use HEVC 10 bit 4:2:2 in the free version.
