DaVinci Resolve Rendering cache Issue

PostWed Apr 20, 2022 12:55 pm

Hello,

I am searching someone to help me me resolving an issue in the render cache of DaVinci (thanks in advance for who can help me).

The question is: why did DaVinci start to render almost everything in the timeline again after I made a change in some part of the project?

Imagine that all the project was render and I have the blue rendering line for all the project, then I make a change to adjust something somewhere in the project, and after that I realize that DaVinci is rendereing again entire parts of the project that I have not modify (the rendering line is red again).

What am I missing?

In the playback Menu the render cache is set tio USER,
and the Fusion Memory cache is set to AUTO.

render cache format: DNxHR LB
Enabling background cachig after 2 seconds.
Automatically cache transition in user mode ON
Automatically cache composites in user mode ON
Automatically cache fusion effects in user mode ON

The render cache on the nodes are set to AUTO.

I am not using any Proxy or Optized media.
Resolution of the project is Ultra HD.

Thank you and hopees to receive some help!

Giancarlo

Only changed parts get a new Cache.

Some folks have reported as you do, where unchanged parts also get a new Cache.

That shouldn't happen, and normally doesn't. But I don't know why it does for some.
My Biases:

You NEED training.
You NEED a desktop.
You NEED a calibrated (non-computer) display.

Hi.
Did your research reveal anything?
Because I have the same problem over and over, though I'm using Proxies in my UHD project to get it working at all!
Seems that there is a severe issue with the render cache.
Every time I restart DVR start to serenader, even part that were successfully rendered before and never changed...

Any resolve is highly appreciated.

Hi all.

I'm now following this thread.

If I place a break in a cached clip, it renders the whole thing over again. If I move anything anywhere from the project, at the very least it renders all the unchanged transitions again.

One day I'll have a faster system. For now, waiting for the cache to finish, then moving one thing, then having to wait again, then making one adjustment to the end credit, then waiting for everything again..
I wait for clips that are already cached to cache again and again and again. which is at least tripling the length of time to complete a project.
I also continue to have a Media Missing issue, despite the media being in the pool. It is on the timeline but says missing and the pool shows it as an unused clip. My only solution so far is to add it to the media pool again from the source folder and then drag it into the timeline again.

Also, 4k 8 bit footage with a color grade on a 29.97 fps timeline is playing back at 8 fps. I only saw such performance decrease in 17 when I was working with 5.4k 10 bit footage.

I appreciate any insights into the issues.

I do notice inconsistent behaviour. Never to the extent that the whole timeline gets re-rendered, but f.e. I edit one title and all the titles in that clip go re-rendering. But the next time I do a very similar thing and only the edited section re-renders, as one would expect. Or: a section is red and stays red, for no obvious reason.

Have you tried switching to Smart Cache, to assess if this behavior persists?

Hi.
Thank you for your replies.

Yesterday I found what was the problem (at least for me): if you have enabled in the settings "automatically cache (composites/transitions/fusion) in user mode" the program re-render all every time.
Now I disabled that three functions and if I use "render cache color output" on the clip, every time I change something on the timeline, everything stay intact without re-render.

I tried to disable all except for "transitions" and now, with some changes in the timeline, the program re-render just the transitions.

I hope this can help

Best regards

I'm still having this issue on the 18.6.3 Build 19. It doesn't matter the rendering settings, if I change anything in the timeline, all the blue renders disappear and it starts all over again.
