Color space matters for instagram? Insta workflow.

PostWed Apr 20, 2022 6:33 pm

Hi,

Does input/timeline/output color space matter if i want to use the exports for instagram?

Hi have ProRes 4444 clip that i want i use on insta. I set the clip data levels to full and Input Color Space to Rec.2020 gamma 2.4.

My project settings are

But the output file looks washed out and not what i see in Resolve. Is it because of Rec 709 output color space? What should the workflow be in this scenario? Should i set the input to 709 as well and color grade instead?

Color spaces always matter. Its determining how the export looks.
I would suggest putting the project settings back to default and then instead use a color space transform node by the output. That way you know what the export will look like in the program.

It looks washed out because its basically changing the color space to a completely separate one, if you apply the same settings on the color space transform node you will see why.
Inside the box? I didn't know about any box...

Are you working on a Mac?

Try this:
DaVinci Resolve Studio 18.6.5
MacBook Pro M1 (2020) | 16GB ram | 1TB SSD
macOS Sonoma 14.4
