No sound - Davinci Resolve 18 Mac

Hey everybody,

Im having problems getting sound out of Resolve 18. I have selected different Outputs but nothings working.
In fact in the Audio Page Bus 1 is receiving Audio as shown in the meter. But this doesn't rech the control room meter - there is nothing happening. Also had the problem of Resolve not asking for any permission while first start.

Im working on a Macbook Studio Max1 512gb 16gbRam
with 12.3.1 OS

Ive checked:

- Audio is not muted at any channel or the preview fader
- Audio is working fine out of Davinci
- Ive closed and restarted Resolve as well as my Mac
- Checked other projects and created new ones where I imported new Audio but with same results
- Installed Resolve 15 (read in a threat). There Audio WORKED and I could give permission to microphone. After installing 18 again Audio didn't worked again with existing and new projects. New was that microphone permission was still given in the security settings of the mac. But anyway no sound.
- Checked as well as my Universal Audio Device as output as well as other and Use System Settings

Hope someone can offer some help - I would have to use it tomorrow.

Is a third party Core Audio device configured or is built-in audio selected?

What is configured as the default device in macOS Audio MIDI Setup?
macOS Applications folder > Utilities > Audio MIDI Setup

Which device is enabled in Resolve's Preferences?
Resolve Preferences > System > Video and Audio IO > Output Device

Disable the "Automatic Speaker Configuration" option and manually select the Output device.

Like I said I tried all different options. There is this party audio by Universal Audio but I also tried built in as well as system sound.
Of course I looked up the Audio Midi Interface and tried various options. Maybe its helpful to say Im an audio engineer and I am very into that software routing thing.
For me the fact that it is working with version 15 of Resolve and not with 18 is more important for the solution I I guess.

Having the same exact issue. Working on an up to date MacBook Pro. Tried 3 different USB audio interfaces that work perfectly with all my other apps. I’ve configured Davinci’s preferences to my audio units both inputs and outputs. Inside my project I’ve assign my mic input form interfaces to the correct channel in fair light. No monitoring, and no sound coming through. Switch over to FCPX, and Premiere Pro 2022 and sound comes through perfectly. This is definitely a Resolve 18 issue. I’ve also done everything that the original poster has done before posting this. Please help!

Show us a screen shot of your Resolve Preferences - System - Video and Audio I/O settings.

I'm a Windows user, so there's a better than good chance that this isn't applicable - but when the sound stopped working for me what I discovered is that was because I had plugged in a USB microphone that had a headphone jack. Windows, in its infinite wisdom, saw the headphone jack as a new audio output device and "helpfully" switched my default audio output to it. Since Resolve was configured to use the system default output device, all of the audio was being routed to the nonexistent headphones.

So if the Mac has some system preference for audio output that would be a place to look.

Definitely. I've seen similar things happening on the Mac.
Sometimes it even helps to switch audio off and on again.

Here are screen shots of Davinci settings. Again I've used this same setup with Premiere Pro 2022 & FCPX seamlessly, so I know my Mic, Preamp, and DAW are working properly. Let me know if there is anything I'm overlooking here. Also this setup worked perfectly with Resolve 17 studio. It's only since upgrade that I get no sound input or monitoring. Thanks for your help!

Any change with “Automatic speaker configuration” disabled in Resolve's Preferences > System > Video and Audio IO?

Does closing all other applications accessing the Core Audio driver improve behaviour (i.e. only Resolve launched)?

A reminder that I'm on Windows, so this may or may not apply to you... but in the Preferences "Audio I/O" settings you have "Studio 68c" set. On my system, both are set to "Use system settings" and I hear the audio just fine.

I can try that and then set my system to use the "Studio68c" as it's source and see if that works. I hope it does. Either way, Resolve needs to fix this so we can use audio device directly with the program

I think it's an OS issue. I also need to go into the system settings for audio regularly on the Mac to make things work. Not only for DR, but for websites too if I'm not using the internal speakers.

I just now had the same issue.. I didn't need any of the projects, so I just deleted my appdata folder to reset all the settings back to default.

How to do this in more detail below:

In windows 10 for DaVinci Resolve 18, I went to start, run, typed in %appdata% and moved the "Blackmagic Design" folder to my desktop (the equivalent of deleting it, but having a backup elsewhere).

I then started DaVinci Resolve and it was basically like a first time run, and everything was working again with the sound. Hope this helps anybody with similar issues

I've had the same issue and none of the options I found online worked for me. Today, I needed to use my wired earphones to listen to music on spotify and decided to check if it did something in davinci resolve. It surprisingly started working again. The audio on imported footage was back. Then I replugged my speakers (without closing and reopening resolve) and it was working on the speakers again.
