failed to create a temporary folder

I have been trying to import drp files on Davinci Resolve 17.4.6 and I get the error "Unable to import file, Failed to create a temporary folder". I have tried importing different drp files and still get the same error. I am on a MacBook pro with MacOS Catalina.

I have checked my internal drives for any errors via disk utility and there are no issues there. I also uninstalled and reinstalled the app and still get the same issue.
Is it a space issue as I have around 90gb of free space on my internal drive - is that enough?

I contacted support and they were unable to help me as I am on the free version of resolve which was disappointing. I also checked on this forum and many have had this issue but i haven't seen any that have been resolved. Unless i've missed something.

Hopefully someone has found a solution.

Hi, in case you are using the Mac App Store Version, please go to folder: /Users/(YOURUSERNAME)/Library/Containers/com.blackmagic-design.DaVinciResolveAppStore/Data/Library/ and make sure that there is a folder named Caches. If not, create one with this name and try again to import your project.

Davinci is looking for the folder: /Users/(YOURUSERNAME)/Library/Containers/com.blackmagic-design.DaVinciResolveAppStore/Data/Library/Caches/. When Resolve can't resolve this folder the error will appear. So simply create it by your self.

Best, Jörn

Thanks Jörn for this fix. I had the same issue. I couldn't find the folder structure you mentioned.

However, after some playing around I found a fix that worked:

I had to adapt it for the Apple Store version of DaVinci Resolve 19 on an M1 Mac Studio running Mac OS Sonoma 14.6.1. The new folder pathway is:

1) Go to Users/(YOURUSERNAME)
2) Press Command + Shift + . (the period key). This will show hidden files in the folder and hence reveal the Library folder.
3) Navigate to Library/Containers/DaVinci Resolve/Data/Library/
4) Create a folder called Caches
5) The pathway should now look like this:
Users/(YOURUSERNAME)/Library/Containers/DaVinci Resolve/Data/Library/Caches

This should now work and you will no longer get the "Failed to create a temporary folder error".

I hope this is useful to any others who have come across this same problem.
