DaVinci Resolve Error while opening in Ubuntu 22.04

PostTue Jun 28, 2022 4:07 pm

Hello, I'm new in this forum. I've recently installed DaVinci Resolve 18 Beta on my new OS, Linux Ubuntu 22.04. My GPU is integrated in my CPU, AMD Ryzen 7 5700G and I also have 32GB ram. When I start the program, it says "Unsupported GPU Processing Mode". Can anyone help me?

Hi Jacobo,

I am not sure if I can help you? I also run DR on a Linux Mint system. This has Ubuntu as a base. Therefore it should work. I have been using DR since version 17 and was able to upgrade to the current 18.05b without any problems. It is important that you have the Studio version in use. Make sure that DR also recognizes the GPU. At the beginning I also had problems because the Nvidia graphics card was not recognized correctly. Therefore, make sure that Ubuntu has loaded it correctly.
Can you select the GPU in the settings?

Getting AMD GPUs to work in Linux with Resolve is challenging. AMD iGPU's probably more so.

Have a look in the big Linux install issues thread for AMD install issues. You can start here, where I got an RX580 to work, using some info others provided. You can search the whole 41 page thread for AMD and find lots more.

Good luck.

I have the same problem with a Mesa Intel Xe Graphics (TGL GT2). Do I have to buy a new machine or can DR work on my PC?

My specs :

- Lenovo P15
- Ubuntu 22.04
- 32 GiB in RAM
- Intel i7 CPU
- 1 TB disk
- GPU Intel Xe (see above).

When I run Davinci Resolve 17 or 18 I am getting a message : "Unsupported GPU Processing Mode".

Resolve on Linux does not support Intel GPUs.

If I use plug my laptop to an external RTX 2060, will it work? Does Resolve support eGPUs?

Thanks

We don't comment on future features, so I have no answer for that.

I too am having trouble starting 18.1 on Ubuntu 22.04. It's on a Lenovo X1E with an Intel i7-8750H CPU and an NVidia GTX 1050 Ti.

I had no trouble with 18.0b5 or 18.0b6, but something changed - with DVR Studio 18.1, it starts and gets to "Loading Fairlight Engine", then crashes.

I installed 18.1 Studio using the script from http://www.danieltufvesson.com/makeresolvede to convert BM's zip scripts to a big .deb package, and installed on Ubuntu 22.04. I've used that method successfully for several years.

But now it doesn't work, and I have many clues on where to start debugging. So if anyone has any ideas, I'd be glad to hear them.

On a related topic, my laptop is a four-year old machine, and it may be time for a new machine. However, since they cost a fair amount of $$, I want to be sure to get one that works. Does anyone have recommendations for a laptop with these qualifications:

- runs Ubuntu Linux
- runs DVR Studio
- 15" or larger screen with at least HD resolution
- handles at least on 4K monitor

Thanks!

If the makeresolve script does the proper things, you should have a DaVinci Resolve Capture Logs app in the Applications area. It has a gear icon. Run that, and provide the log file it generates.

You can also launch Resolve from the command line in a terminal and see what type of errors are being generated when it launches.

Another thing to consider is that a new Resolve version will generally run the onboarding app. It's been my experience that the app doesn't work on Ubuntu. If you get a white window in the middle of the GUI when you launch Resolve, that's the onboarding app, hung. Open the System Monitor app and see if there is a DaVinci_Resolve_Welcome app running. If there is, kill it, then Resolve will launch. The onboarding only runs once, so this won't happen again after you kill it the first time.
