1st video upload unsharp.

PostFri Jul 01, 2022 8:42 pm

I uploaded my 1st Resolve video, that was 3840x2160 Ultra HD after rendering. I thought I was selecting the youtube render settings. In my youtube studio, it still says HD, processing HD, seemingly stuck there, though I can go to the address link and watch.
Much less sharp that when I look at my timeline full screen on another monitor.

So since this my my 1st attempt does it need more time, to be HD. Will it never finish? should I not have tried if it wasn't reduced? Just delete and make sure it's 1920 x 1080?

YouTube takes some time to process UHD so you have to be patient. I've known the UHD version of a video not to appear for some hours.
I also don't use the YT preset as I consider the bitrate to be too low, so render to the computer and then upload.
Just to be sure, was your Timeline set to UHD?

Yes, regarding the long time, my friend also told me that, when I asked about this videos. How do I check the timeline for UHD.

You can change your Timeline resolution in the Project Settings. I shoot and edit in HD and then upscale by changing the resolution to UHD before rendering.

It was HD. What results when you upscale to UHD? I don't understand these codecs well.

As I said , I shoot HD (1920x1080). I edit and grade in an HD Timeline. Before rendering I change the Timeline resolution to UHD (3840x2160) and render that at a bit rate of at least 80Mbs to my PC, which I then upload to YT.
Because YT re-encodes everything, one of the main benefits of doing this is that more bandwidth is given to UHD footage alleviating some of the artifacts, such as blocking, that you get with HD. You are not adding any detail to the original image by doing this, just helping it to replay better on YT.
As an example, this is my channel trailer all shot and edited in HD then upscaled to UHD.
